The New Hyatt Regency Kuala Lumpur At KL Midtown: Great Hotel, Poor Location

Matthew Klint Posted onNovember 12, 2025November 12, 2025 7 Comments

Hello from Kuala Lumpur, where I’m spending three nights at three different Hyatt properties. I began at the new Hyatt Regency Kuala Lumpur at KL Midtown, which is a very nice Hyatt Regency property, though the location is not ideal for tourists.

Hyatt Regency Kuala Lumpur At KL Midtown – My First Impressions

At about 112 USD/night this hotel is a steal right now. I used a suite upgrade to confirm a Regency Suite at booking, which included lounge access (remember, I’m no longer a Globalist).

After arriving from Bangkok, I used Grab to get the hotel. Upon arrival, I found an empty lobby and was welcomed by a trio of associates.

The lobby has an international restaurant and bar in one corner (there’s a Chinese restaurant one level up) where breakfast is served for hotel guests who do not have Regency Club access.

My suite was very spacious and definitely new…it smelled like Ikea. It included a living room, guest bathroom, bedroom, and large bathroom.

a bed with white sheets and a painting on the wall

The climate control worked well (I like my room very cold when I sleep) and I slept very well…it’s nice to catch up on some sleep.

At daybreak, I got up and worked out in the hotel’s very large gym, which includes TechnoGym equipment.

Then, I sat in the steam room and sauna…the hotel also has nice wellness facilities.

The most pleasant surprise was the Regency Club, which is an amenity that so many Hyatt Regency hotels in the USA have abandoned. A huge breakfast spread was available, including a chef to prepare eggs to your liking. It was the sort of Regency Club we can only dream of outside of Asia.

The only downside was that the lounge only had an automatic coffee machine and the coffee was not at all good. I went downstairs and had a barista-made coffee from a far better machine at the bar, though this hotel uses shelf-stable milk, which I think has a repugnant and overpowering taste. Ah yes, the drama of Matthew and his coffee…

I’d say the only downside to this hotel is its location. It is “Midtown” and you can see there are buildings and construction all around it…but in terms of walking? Forget it. Tourism? Nothing that I could see. It looks like the car ride to the Park Hyatt is about 25 minutes away in afternoon traffic.

The Park Hyatt rises in the distance…

This is a great hotel at a great price, but if you’re a tourist, the Park Hyatt, Grand Hyatt, and Hyatt Centric are all in better locations.

More details and pictures in my full review…stay tuned.

I’m sharing about my whirlwind trip through Asia.

Wow! Really nice for a Hyatt-Regency. And, great location for MITEC (the massive spaceship-looking building).

Kuala Lumpur is HUGE. I spent about two weeks there in 2017 and returned for a week in 2019. The city is more like a county or metro region in Western countries. It’s expanded and annexed over the years, I think. Looking at Google Maps, the Hyatt Regency is probably 20 minutes with zero traffic from the Petronas Towers and another 20 minutes from Bukit Bintang. Grab is cheap enough that it’s probably not a deal breaker, especially if the rates were good. What’s the alcohol selection like at night?

Sadly, I arrived after the cocktail reception and so I don’t have any insight on the Regency Club alcohol selection.

But did you see Mr Chow?

Remember my expectations of this place are all gathered from Hangover 2.

I really love the Grand Hyatt as a Globalist. Arguably the best club lounge I’ve ever visited and an astonishingly good breakfast in the restaurant. Great location too.
