Passengers Join Together In Song As Maskless Couple Thrown Off American Airlines Flight

Matthew Klint Posted onSeptember 21, 2021 29 Comments

If you were onboard American Airlines Flight 1469 to Houston last Friday, you were treated not only to a nine-hour delay, but a pair of passengers who were thrown off for refusing to wear a mask, and a chorus of passengers singing a late 1960’s hit.

Couple Serenaded Off American Airlines Flight For Refusing To Wear Masks

Tempers were already thin after a long delay and one Texas-bound couple apparently had enough. After the plane had re-boarded, they refused to keep their mask on. Despite being warned, the couple persisted and were ejected from the flight. Ironically, in the video below the man appears to have a mask on…sometimes it is too little, too late.

As the ejected passengers were gathering their belongings, passengers onboard broke into song, singing the 1969 song “Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye” by Steam.

Three people kicked out of American Airlines flight in MIA that had already been delayed for 9 hours. Two for not following mask rules and another person for arguing with them | #ONLYinDADE ig: dreatrev pic.twitter.com/OeNt3H6O05

Drowning out the chorus, a flight attendant admonished passengers to hush:

“Thank you for maintaining you composure. We ask that you respect the situation right now.”

The couple were removed without police presence and it is not clear if they were rebooked on a later flight.

An American Airlines spokesperson confirmed:

“Prior to takeoff, American Airlines Flight 1469, with service from Miami (MIA) to Houston (IAH), returned to the gate to deplane two customers who failed to comply with crew member instructions and refused to adhere to federal face covering requirements. We thank our team members for their professionalism and apologize to our customers for the inconvenience.”

CONCLUSION

There’s been a relative lull in viral mask incidents the last two weeks. Perhaps (hopefully) people are finally getting the message. A nine-hour delay is sure to fray many nerves, but it does not absolve us of our responsibility of abiding by airline policy.

Everyone has become so emotionally hyper-partisan over the mask issue and it is ridiculous. It won’t kill you to wear a mask on a flight if that’s what you have to do. You may not like it, but then again neither do I. That said, the pro-mask people are insane too. No, you won’t die if someone is in the room without a mask. Nor will that cloth mask do much for you anyhow, aside from soothing your feelings. That some people act as if removing a mask will result in death would be laughable if it weren’t for the fact that many of them actually dictate policy to the rest of us.

Bottom line: chill the heck out! Maskers, wear your own if you need Linus’ security blanket to get through the day. And anti-maskers: if the store or airline asks you to wear one, don’t be an a*hole, it’s their place, do as they ask. There, problem solved.

Certainly, 25 years of experience working with respiratory protection. I never said “they don’t work’, I said they don’t do much for you. To achieve that, you need a minimum of an N95 mask, worn tightly at all times. Any looseness and the deadly COVID gets in there any you’ll die. Even better, go with an N100 or P100 respirator – that will further lower the potential viral intake. However, before you do these things, be aware that both types strain your respiratory system over time – especially the N100/P100 negative pressure respirators. The N95 will grow tiresome after a couple of hours too, as they weren’t designed to be worn all day, every day.

As for cloth masks, the spacing between the fibers is so large on a micro scale that any virus can get in. The only help it can do is if you have it and you sneeze, some of the virus will be caught in the water droplets in your mask. But some will get out. And the virus itself is not inhibited in the least by a cloth mask. It’s theatre.

We should wear N95-class masks if we want to beat the virus.

While that would help, those cost more and there aren’t enough of them to go around as they are a specialty medical product. Cloth masks are easy and quick to make and anyone can get one which is why we pretend that they do the job of an N95, because there will never be enough of those to go around. Furthermore, many people couldn’t wear one for more than a short time because that extra protections (filtration) does strain your pulmonary system somewhat. Not as bad as the P100, but it’s not something you want to slap on an 80 year old for an 8 hour flight.

WOW! TWO YEARS soon, and you STILL haven’t got the point about masking. You REALLY need to stop watching FOX News.

The purpose of you wearing a mask is not to protect your self. It’s to protect the people around you. A regular surgical mask doesn’t, as you say, do much in protecting you. It does however reduce the virus load when you exhale by 95-97%. THAT is why you are supposed to mask up. People have been informed about this for more than 18 months, and you still haven’t gotten it into your head. That’s amazing. Dl you live in a Cage?

Back in August, the University of Waterloo in Canada examined the efficacy of masks as a whole, finding that those flimsy, blue disposable masks everyone is made to wear if they don’t bring their own into a public place or transportation are about 10 percent effective. The N95 masks are about 50 percent effective.

Those are the facts, unlike the crap that MSNBC, NPR, etc is feeding you guys.

You must swallow one of these two pills. One pill has a 50% chance of killing you. The other pill has a 20% chance of killing you. Pick one.

The mask isn’t going to kill you, but if it affords you SOME protection (and yes, even a cloth mask does afford you some protection), isn’t it worth it? And think of OTHER PEOPLE, too. You wearing a mask helps protect OTHERS from YOUR particulates. Only you wearing a mask affords you 67% less chance of catching COVID-19. Other person wearing mask affords you 75% less chance. BOTH of you wearing a mask: 92% less chance.

Your “education” seemingly is wasted and only makes you arrogant, and dangerous.

When it comes to effectiveness of masking, I only ask a simple question. Cloth masks (or any mask) is never 100% effective. My question: would you rather inhale 100% of possible virus particles in the air or would you rather inhale a lower amount? Generally, the severity of the infection is tied to initial amount of exposure.

One in every 500 Americans is already dead from COVID, but I suppose this is just another “nothing burger.” Remind us again what “medical freedoms” you’re referring to. Freedom to carry and transmit deadly viruses? Freedom to announce on your deathbed that you wished you’d taken the threat seriously?

I really don’t want to start a US/Australian tit for tat discussion. But that plane seems to be full of America’s WalMart people! In Australia, people are jusr more “civilised” when they travel by air. Even on the lowest fare LCC, which was Tigerair before it went bust, passengers seem to be more polite. The majority of them dress appropriately. Butr this plane reminds me of the passengers I shared Greyhound buses with, when I backpacked across the US over the course of 6 months, 4 times over my younger years…..
