A Bizarre Escape From Southwest Airlines

I’m having a lot of trouble making sense of a man who decided to jump off a Southwest Airlines flight after boarding and make a dash for it across the tarmac…

Bizarre: Man Jumps Out of Overwing Exit On Southwest Airlines 737 And Tries To Escape MSY Airport…But Why?

The incident happened yesterday evening at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY). After boarding a Southwest Airlines but before it took off, a man pulled open the over-wing emergency exit door, dashed out onto the wing, jumped off the wing, then ran across the tarmac.

He tried to commandeer a service truck, presumably to drive off the airport premises, but was apprehended before he could do so. He is now in a local hospital undergoing a psychiatric evaluation. No charges have been filed at this point.

So far this has only been picked up by local news stations in New Orleans like WWL. I’ve searched social media for passenger accounts about what occurred onboard, but found nothing.

Which leads me to this question: what could have possibly prompted this sort of behavior? What drives a man to board an aircraft and then jump out through the window, onto the wing, and then down to the ground? It’s a rather steep drop from the wing of a Boeing 737 to the ground…was there a fight onboard? Was he a wanted fugitive?

We’re left now with more questions than answers.

Were you on the Southwest Airlines flight this occurred on? What prompted this man to jump and make such a bizarre escape attempt?

Didn’t realize how bad Southwest really is and fell for the hype on some of these sites trying to defend them as “equal” to the Big 3? Instead he realizes it’s just Spirit without the option to pay for a seat.

    Only logical explanation.

WN operates around 4000 flights per day with over 700 aircraft. There’s bound to be an occasional incident of some sort.

I was actually on this flight and can tell you exactly what happened.

Boarding was nearly complete. The man in question had a window at the exit row. The last passengers to board were a 500 lb influencer and her camera-person of indeterminate gender. The influencer, complaining that she was required to buy two seats to accommodate her gargantuan mass, took the last two seats next to the man, who was wedged against her and the exit door. She further mentioned that she had a massive beef burrito in the airport and that it would be hell for every passenger within a ten foot radius.

The man, overcome with terror, opened the emergency exit door and was immediately ejected from the plane by the pressure of the influencer’s enormous bulk like a champagne cork. The rest is as described in the article.
