Hot Deal: Air France La Première First Class For Under $600

UPDATE: This fare is no longer available.

Always dreamed of flying in first class on Air France? Now may be your chance…but you need to act quickly.

Delta/Air France have filed a cheap one-way fare from Algiers, Algeria (ALG) to Portland (PDX). You can score first class for as little as $566.65 between Paris (CDG) and either Los Angeles (LAX) or San Francisco (SFO). The San Francisco flight is (currently) operated with a 777-300ER featuring Air France’s most modern and luxurious first class cabin. The LAX flight is operated by an A380-800 (though I am not convinced the A380 will ever return) with an older seat and less spacious and private cabin.

Search for fares using ITA Matrix, then book using BookWithMatrix. Delta is the ticketing carrier and you can choose to book directly with Delta or on Priceline (you’ll see these options on the blue drop-down box on BookWithMatrix).

The default results have you leaving Algeria at 6:00AM, but on some days you can take an evening flight to Paris, overnight there, and then have more time in the stunning La Première lounge in the morning before your flight. (check out my full review of this lounge here).

I ticketed a couple reservations on Priceline. Note that if you are booking on Priceline your initial screen will show business class on all segments. Don’t let that deter you: you’ll be able to see on the final page prior to booking that the fare is actually in first class on the longhaul segment.

So when you see this, don’t worry:

You’ll later see this:

And yes, it tickets in first class. I was already able to assign seats. The tickets book into J and F class and are also fully refundable if you change your mind later on and decide not to travel.

CONCLUSION

This may be a rare opportunity to enjoy Air France First Class for a very good price. Since the ticket is fully refundable (even in today’s environment), I would book now and think about it later.

(H/T: To Spencer from Straight To The Points for altering me to this deal)

Don‘t want to be THAT guy, but I never heard/experienced that AF will honor such a ticket. Played that game with them twice, to no avail. Ticket gets either cancelled or you get a downgrade to Y right at the gate. I absolutely understand to get in here, just make sure to manage your expectations accordingly 😉

If this was an Air France-issued ticket, I’m not sure I would have bothered (thought likely, because AF has traditionally had cheap first class fares out of Algeria that were definitely not mistake fares).

But what brings me (some) hope is that these tickets were/are issued by Delta and Delta has a much better record of honoring fares it later regrets filing.

We’ll see what happens. but I remember Delta issued tickets that they ended up canceling due to an error affair with Kenya Airways.

Just booked two one-ways for two–one in May and one in August. Fingers crossed–thank you.

Maybe a Flying Blue business class reservation? Sometimes as cheap as 53K miles.

Hi Matt, I apologize if this has an obvious answer but how is this refundable? Followed your steps and I see Priceline tells me I need to cancel by Monday. It’s past my bedtime and I have shelter in place brain. Thanks for sharing

    Hi Matt,

I booked 2 itineraries for Feb 2021. By Feb its either via JFK or LAX, no routings thru SFO come up. As you mentioned, LAX is with an A380 while JFK is 777.

    Some questions:

    1) It says I can cancel free until March 30. Is that what you mean by refundable or is it even refundable up to a later date?

    2) You mentioned you don’t think the A380 would come back for AF, so you mean they will replace the flight with a 777? But what do you think they will do the if there are more than 4 pax who booked first class?

That cancel by 30 March is default language on all Priceline-issued tickets. If you look at the underlying fare rules, refunds/cancellations are free.

Can you tell me where I can find the fare rules? I have checked Priceline, Delta and AF sites using their respective booking references but I don’t see it.

As much I would like to jump on this, I’m just focused on trying to get a refund for my cancelled flights from Lufthansa and British Airways. Booking new travel and handing more money over to airlines who might not even honor refunds is way too risky for me.

I called Lufthansa yesterday because they canceled my flight from FRA to LAX from 1 to 6 APR. Waited twice for 30 minutes and the phone hung up both times. Then I got through using the option to change a reservation after holding about 40 minutes (mind you this was 3am). I told the rep I called to request a refund for my flight that had been canceled. She immediately tried to to get me to change my date or use a voucher for another date. I told her I only wanted the refund because my family needs the money. She then said ok, but that the refund wouldn’t be issued until 2 billing cycles (whatever that means). All that to say it is possible to get a refund, just doesn’t seem like they are sending it within 7 days. If it doesn’t show up on my cc within the next week I may dispute the charge.

Last night there was a cheaper route ($483) from ALG-CDG-IAH in La Premiere (CDG-IAH segment). I hope Air France honors it but for some reason am not too optimistic on it. I don’t have an Algerian visa either and hopefully it’s easy to apply for one.

It’s not easy at all, but this is a country I’ve been wanting to visit for years. I hope it works out.

Not 1st class, but I booked BUD-HNL in J round trip on KLM 2 weeks ago for $560, fully refundable. I’ve received tix number, seat assignments and the fare has cleared my cc acct. Hoping my Oct trip happens…

Screw AF and their refusal to refund tickets for cancelled flights.

When things return to normal, I hope people won’t forget which airlines are basically conducting institutionalized theft right now (the list includes AF, LH, and UA).

Part of the reason I booked this ticket. Let’s see how AF reacts. Let’s see how two-faced and hypocritical they actually are.

I’m all booked for this November and am very excited. Quick thought/question – is it possible to change the ticket later on (either ahead of time or at check in in Algeria/CDG) to have a longer layover in Paris, or take a later flight? Just thinking I’d like a stopover or some more time in the lounge.

Technically yes, as long as first segment stays unchanged, but it might complicate matters and then you’d be hit with the Chirac tax. My biggest concern would be drawing any attention to this ticket.

When do you think its safe to start booking for airfare over to Algeria/Europe. Thinking of doing Europe for a few days then go to Algeria to connect to Paris. Also how difficult to get Visa for a US citizen and is it safe especially with a 6 year old? I’ve heard mix opinions on how safe it is.

I would not hesitate to take my wife and son (though for various reasons, I booked this as a solo trip).

I’m not booking any outbound trips or working on the visa for at least a couple weeks.

My goal will be to hit Libya, Tunisia, and Algeria on the same trip!

Hmm ok. That gives me a idea. My son has always wanted to go to Egypt.

Good advice and thanks! I just wonder what they would do if I asked in CDG. I wouldn’t even mind the taxes if it means I can spend time in Paris. That said, I know the golden rule is to not call the airline and avoid communication.

Booked last night on Expedia for 472 in late August departure, ALG-CDG-IAH.
Not to be too greedy, for a non Skyteam elite, to which program should I credit it? Ticket number is 006, so if I credit it to delta would only be 2000 miles.

If Korean Air survives, I would credit to Korean.

It just got cancelled. Check your email. New Airfrance e-tickets on 057 stock in Business (Z). This will be a mess to get a refund on.

Are you booked to IAH? The IAH flight was subbed from a 777-300ER to an A330 with no first class.

That’s what happens when bloggers take these fares public. Maybe there should be a class action suit against you guys?! What did you all expect…AF is no CX.

Sorry David, but the Flyertalk thread had far more exposure than the handful of blogs this deal made it to.
