With Air Greenland adding a link to the Canadian Arctic next summer, I am plotting out a trip to Greenland, Copenhagen, and Iqaluit, Canada.
Air Greenland Places Iqaluit Flights On Sale
First, let’s briefly look at the details of the new route now on sale from Air Greenland:
- Air Greenland will fly once weekly (Wednesday) between Nuuk, Greenland (GOH) and Iqaluit, Canada (YFB) next summer
- The flight is 513 miles and will be operated by a De Havilland Dash 8-200 with 37 seats onboard
- Service will run from 26 June 2024 to 20 October 2024
- Flights will operate via the following schedule:
- Air Greenland GL771 // Nuuk – Iqaluit // dep 1:45PM arr 12:50PM
- Air Greenland GL772 // Iqaluit – Nuuk // dep 1:50PM arr 6:50PM
- Fares start at DKK1642 (about USD230) one-way
- This marks a route resumption, though Air Greenland last ran this route from 2014-2016
Isn’t it fascinating that the Canada and Greenland are about as far as San Francisco is from Portland, Oregon or Washington, DC is from Chicago?
I Want To Go Greenland. Finally.
For years in my “where I want to go this year” posts in the first week of January, I’ve mentioned traveling to Greenland on Air Greenland. I had a trip booked there this autumn, but that fell through…
…However, next year I want to do this and also use the opportunity to try out Air North in the Canadian Arctic. Canadian North partners with Air Canada and operates Boeing 737-400/500 aircraft.
Ideally, I’d do something like this:
- St. John’s, Newfoundland
- Saint Pierre and Miquelon
- Iqaluit, Nunavut
- Nuuk + Ilulissat, Greenland
- Copenhagen
I’m not sure how the logistics would work out, but I could see myself flying to Europe on Air Greenland and back on Air Saint-Pierre from Paris (that seasonal route will fly again next summer).
Of course I’d also love to try Atlantic Airways to New York, which could be another stop…
Air Greenland operates an Airbus A330 between Greenland and “mainland” Denmark (Copenhagen). Unfortunately, it has retired its A330-200 with a very nice looking business class cabin:
The new A330-800neo has what is akin to premium economy in its forward cabin:
A lot of think about, but I am going to start planning now, get something booked, and hope it works out.
CONCLUSION
Air Greenland has not only announced service to Iqaluit, but is selling tickets for it. I’m very tempted to jump onboard and plotting what might be a delightful trip to the far north next summer in three (or four) different countries.

That business class seat looks like a hair salon lounger for hair washing. What the actual…..
What does the poor person behind you do, pretend that he is a dentist?
In the year 2000 or even 2003, that reclining seat was the typical business or even first class. The seat pod is more recent.
Such trip report to Greenland would be nice to read even if entirely in economy class.
People attack Trump all the time but the idea of Greenland becoming US territory is a potentially good idea. Newfoundland considered being US territory after World War II but Canada put that away. Canada only wanted a Canada or the UK vote.
Look at you talking about taking Greenland. It’s another country’s sovereign territory.
And quite frankly, maybe America should start cleaning up its own mess. Homeless cities, border invasion, and tranny military doesn’t exactly scream success.
OMAAT did a fun review of another Northern Canadian airline a while back: Air North based out of Yukon. Would be great to read about your experience on Canadian North! Iqaluit has a new airport terminal too.
Funny you should post this! Last night my partner and I booked YYZ-YOW-YFB for 12.5K Aeroplan points, and then grabbed two seats on YFB-GOH for two days later. Haven’t booked flights out of Greenland yet, but premium class on the CPH flight is only $1K. We’ll probably do that. Connecting at SFJ actually sounds fun.
I was concerned all the space for the summer was going to get sucked up. Especially in the Air North flights. Thrilled to have it booked. Maybe I’ll see you up there!
Good for you! I really want to make this trip happen.
My parents spent a few days in Greenland last summer and loved it.
I look forward to the trip report.
I flew from CPH to SFJ on Air Greenland and the best part was when they came around with the beverage cart and loaded you up with EVERYTHING at one time. There wasn’t enough room on the tray for the food once it showed up. I would highly recommend spending time on the ferries – it is a marvelous way to see Greenland.
Thanks for the tip!
This summer I won’t have time for a trip like this sadly, but excited to hear about yours!
When might you share how you re-secured Hyatt status for 2023? That’s what I most want to hear about when you’re ready to share
Did a cruise out of Iceland with 3 stops in Greenland this past July. Absolutely loved Greenland. I can provide you with the info of an EXTREMELY good private boat service that can take you all the way up into the fjord in Nuuk. He’s expensive but when you are the only boat in the fjord surrounded by massive icebergs at the front of the glacier. It’s worth it.
You seem to be confusing Air North and Canadian North. Air North is Yukon’s Airline, Canadian North covers NWT/Nunavut and is partnered with Air Greenland for the Iqaluit-Nuuk and partners with Aeroplan for points bookings.
Keep in mind that if you are visiting the Canadian Arctic you will not be visiting the Canadian people and getting to know the culture and cities in Canada such as Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver but just seeing lots of snow and ice. Happy trails!
