Fun: “U.S. Capital Airport Codes” On Jeopardy!

Here’s a fun category on Jeopardy! concerning U.S. airport codes. Can you guess the correct answers?

Test Your Knowledge Of Airport Codes On Jeopardy!

Flagged via Ross Feinstein on X, there was a fun Jeopardy! category last night that involved airport codes, knowledge of which is one of the perennial signs of being an airline nerd. You were provided the airport code and a clue and had to guess the state the airport was located in. All airports were in capital cities.

How did you do? Yes, I got them all right! 😉

I do not have a TV any longer, but grew up watching Jeopardy! and love that program. Alex Trebek is greatly missed and was a classy person to meet, humble and gracious.

I once tried out for Teen Jeopardy! and didn’t make it. A few years later, a friend of mine at UCLA won the college tournament of champions. Some day I’d like to try out again…I can usually do pretty well playing along at home. I’m a great repository of worthless information! 😉

I love geeky airline games, especially those that involve airport does. I can fondly recall playing a game with Tiffany and Ben from One Mile At A Time that involved modifying one letter of an airport code to get another airport code. When you could not come up with one, you were out.

So for example, you start with LAX (Los Angeles).

The next person would change one letter, say LAD (Luanda).

Then the next one, say IAD (Washington Dulles).

And so on…

You should try it…it’s a lot of fun.

Too easy. Central Asian airport codes would be more fun.

American audiences are too FRU fru. They’d never TSE this category through. A TASk too far if you will. The writers might suggest the category, but ASBetter judgement would ALArming prevail, they’d have no choice but to bid it DYU.

Some can be tough. For example, Olympia, WA. The usual passenger will fly to SEA. However, a private plane might fly to OLM.

How about Dover, Delaware. Is it 33N? ILG? PHL?

How about Annapolis? Is it DCA, BWI or ANP?

How about the question: 33N: watch out for Commander biting you. What is Dover.
