Amazon holds their Prime Day once per year which offers Black Friday-level discounts on participating products. I wanted to share my picks for family travelers. This year Amazon Prime Day has been extended, starting at 3PM Eastern on July 16th ending midnight on July 17th.
Amazon’s Own Products
Our family uses Amazon a lot. We have even ordered useful or forgotten items during trips to be delivered to us at our hotel. Here are a few of the Amazon products I recommend and use while on traveling with our young daughter. Kyle started his post yesterday with the products Amazon offers exclusively (Matthew too), so I too have decided to leave those links for you here at the top of the post.
Included with your membership is free two-day shipping regardless of the order amount as is a slew of online memberships including Prime Video. You will need this to participate in Prime Day. If you are a student you can save some money and apply for this cheaper version of the full membership here.
Amazon Kindle Fire 7 Kids Edition Tablet – From $89.99
There have been a lot of great deals on Kindles yesterday and today. E-readers are great for travelers who enjoy reading and don’t have to carry the weigh of multiple books. For us, traveling with a toddler who can’t quite read yet a tablet is a must for her. Although we travel with an iPad mini, this Kindle Fire Kids Edition Tablet with a protective case comes in at a great price. Other Kindle Fire Tablets are coming in as low as $29.99. For those looking for an E-reader you can find them for as low as $49.99. Some have suggested that there are even cheaper ways to get a Kindle on Prime Day.
Kindle Unlimited – $9.99/month
This service acts like a Netflix of e-books and allows you to read unlimited digital copies for a low monthly fee.
We are big fans of Audible. While Kyle listens to books more often than I do, I have also found that downloading books for our daughter has also been of great value to us. This has come in handy while on a long road trip while taking a time out from screens or even at a destination during bedtime. We have enjoyed listening to books by Roald Dahl to falling down the rabbit hole with Alice. Audible has so much to offer.
Staying Charged
As I mentioned before whether it’s a long haul flight or hours in the car, electronics help us get from point A to point B smoothly and sanely – Keeping those batteries charged up is a must. Here are a few adapters, surge protectors and other useful accessories for those on the go.
Key Power 200-Watt Step Down 220V to 110V Voltage Converter/International Travel Adapter $29.99
This is an all-in-one travel adapter, converter and charging station. It comes with four adapters, three socket, four USB ports and a carrying case.
Belkin SurgePlus USB Swivel Surge Protector and Charger From $14.99
This surge protector is much smaller but doesn’t offer all of the same features for those who may need more international options. I can personally attest to the convenience of size and weight on this particular item as it is my husbands preferred choice and goes on sale for Prime Day tonight at 6:15pm EDT.
Lumina 5200 mAh Ultra Compact Portable Charger External Battery
Portable battery chargers are a must for us. This compact and lightweight external battery from Lumina will go on sale during Prime Day today at 3:15pm EDT.
Headphones
Kidz Gear Wired Headphones From $13.99
These headphones are great for younger kids and have always been our favorite. They are very affordable (even more so on Prime Day at 4:35pm EDT), have good sound quality and a great adjustable fit. I particularly like the ability to use the volume control on the cord.
For Bigger Kids
Hussar Bluetooth Headphones From $26.99
For older kids or those who don’t like the over-ear wired sets, these headphones could be a great option. The reviews are quite good and when compared with beats it looks like these are a much better value for a similar if not better quality.
Bose Quiet Comfort 25 Noise Cancelling Headphones – $125 ($85)
Like everyone else, I can not disagree that this deal on the Bose QC25 is just too good to pass up. If our daughter was older we would consider grabbing these for her as a Christmas gift this year. If you or someone you know is looking for these, now is a great time to buy.
Packing and Luggage
Packing cubes and foldable bags are a must-have for us while we travel. We have had our MUJI Boston Bag and MUJI packing cubes for a few years now, but with these similar items at these great prices, I would consider grabbing a few of these during Prime Day as well.
Packing Cubes
JJ POWER Travel Packing Cubes, Luggage Organizers with Shoe Bag from $12.64
I love the variety of sizes in this bundle and the bonus shoe bag. This is a great deal for this but note that it is ending soon and the price will go back up.
Foldable Duffle Bags
I like to pack as minimally as possible but that often means I’ll probably be bringing more items back from a trip with me. I always add a folded up duffle bag into my luggage and that way I have a quick and easy solution if I need an extra piece of luggage. Here are a few on offer:
RedCamp Lightweight Foldable Duffle Bag
This is quite similar to the foldable duffle bags we use while traveling. Lightweight yet durable and easy to fold back up.
Wandf Foldable Travel Duffel Bag Luggage Sports Gym Water Resistant Nylon
I really like this size and the straps for wearing it crossbody style or slipping it onto your rolling luggage. This foldable bag also comes in a variety of different colors.
Packing a Mini Go-Bag
Our daughter loves to carry her own small backpack filled with different items for on the plane or at the destination. Here is what a little go bag would look like for her.
Everest Junior Backpack $10.82
A small, lightweight backpack is key. We happened to snag one this size from a market in Bangkok, but our daughter would love picking out the color and wearing around a bag just her size.
ALEX Discover My First Scribble – $6.99
In the bag goes a notebook for drawings and endless tic-tac-toe game playing.
For kids a bit older…
This is a more interactive journal for those traveling kiddos.
AmazaPens Mini Gel Pens – $11.00
I love the compact case and small size of these pens. Easy to pack, place on a tray table and plenty of colors to choose from.
Books
Of course in the bag would go a couple of books too. There are loads of great books on sale today but here are a couple that would be great for those kids who love to explore and travel the world. Don’t forget to use the extra promotional code PRIMEBOOKS18 for $5 off $20 on books offered by Amazon.
All the excitement for a child’s first airplane trip.
Tag along on this great adventure cruising out from the coast of Maine.
For the older and more adventurous traveling kiddo.
Miscellaneous/At Home
I didn’t have another category to stick this item into, but more than once on our travels our daughter has gotten sick in an unfamiliar place. I have since always traveled with a small thermometer and eventually I upgraded to one like this (this one actually looks much better):
Kinsa Digital Smart Ear Thermometer for Baby, Kid and Adult – $24.51
The thermometer we travel with is a bit bigger and I really like the ability to link this one with your phone.
Remember your travels while you’re at home
These are great interactive ways for reminiscing on your travels while at home.
Scratch Off Map Of The World With States and Flags – $17.99
We have one just like this and our daughter loves scratching off each place she has been after returning home from a trip.
GnD Our Adventure Book – $14.69
Scrapbooks and memory books are fun to piece together after any adventure. This one has the theme from the movie “UP” a favorite in our household. What I like most about it is that you can add photos, train tickets and write in little captions. This book leaves it all up to your customization.
