I enjoyed an excellent cup of coffee during my 21-hour layover in Bucharest, a city that (once you move beyond the Old Town) is full of charm.
Best Coffee In Bucharest, Romania
Bucharest has a fascinating history and a fascinating amalgamation of architecture bearing witness to its history. It also has a great coffee culture and I found a nice place just a short walk from my hotel.

Origo is a “typical” but excellent third wave coffee shop that features a wide array of espressos from around world with baristas that appreciate coffee and know how to do latte art.
Look at the menu and what do you notice?
There is no small/meidum/large options – just one option for each drink. That, more often than not, I find is a sign of a great coffee shop. There is really no such thing as a small or large cortado or flat white: it is but one size if you are a coffee purist.
I ordered a flat white for 19 Lei (~4USD) which is by no means cheap for coffee in Central Europe. Bucharest used to be inexpensive (it certainly was when I first visited in 2011) but is not cheap any longer. This coffee falls on the premium side, but even so, it is worth the extra buck or two to really enjoy some excellent coffee.
In fact, my flat white was so enjoyable I took a bag of coffee beans home with me.
Wi-Fi is complimentary for customers. Ask for a wi-fi card.
It was a cold and gray day, but there was outdoor seating available too, which I’d imagine is quite nice during the warmer months.
Where is your favorite coffee shop in Bucharest?
That’s not a typo that they’re open until midnight?!?!?
They are indeed open until midnight. People drink coffee late!
Haha the wifi card, when translated from Romanian, says “the dancing goat.”
Ah, this place was right down the street from my Airbnb, so I was a regular for two weeks. But yes, it did jump in proce between 2021, 2022, and 2023.
They switch from coffee to alcohol in the evening… that’s why they’re open so late.
Ah, I missed that about the evening. We have a coffee shop in Pasadena that does that.
