For all the fun we have ribbing Southwest Airlines, I’m truly a WN fan. That doesn’t mean I’d ever choose them over any of the other airlines that serve Philadelphia (especially when their leisure fares are often the most expensive), but the Southwest culture is laudable and should serve as an archetype to other airlines in the Untied States. Unlike some buffoons who rip Southwest without having set foot on a Southwest plane in years, I still use Southwest for intra-California travel and have nothing but praise for the pioneer low-cost-carrier.
For Philadelphia flyers, here’s a promotion that may make Southwest a little more attractive:
Now through December 15 you can earn double Rapid Rewards credit on flights to/from PHL. Earn two credits for each one-way flight or 2.25 for shorthaul and three credits for longhaul (over 750 mile) flights book in Business Select.
Bonus flight credits do not count toward A-List qualification and bonus credits will post within four weeks of completing travel.
I’ve got too much invested in Star Alliance to deviate, but if all I wanted was to get from point A to point B and the prices were similar, I’d strongly consider taking advantage of this offer. In fact, I often book clients on Southwest flights (both long and short) simply because Southwest remains a great airline for leisure travelers–those who don’t want to be nickeled and dimed and could care less about airport lounges and first class upgrades. Free drinks and a bag of peanuts or snack, a free checked bag, and being treated with respect go a long way.
