Lovely: I Screwed Up My Gulf Air 787-9 Trip

Well, so much for that review….

Several months back when American Airlines announced it would dissolve its partnership with Gulf Air, I booked a trip in late fall. For Saturday morning, as it turned out.

I figured this would give me an excellent chance to try out Gulf’s new 787 in business class from Bahrain to London. Small problem: I neglected the trip. I didn’t forget it—it was always in the back of my mind—but I have been so busy with my other business that I failed to take those few hours necessary to properly plan out the trip, always defering it to another day.

When I finally sat down yesterday morning to find a way to Delhi by this evening, I found myself in a difficult predicament. There was no time and I was out of options. It’s the busy shoulder season and premium space was at scarce. I wanted to review something new, but there was nothing…nothing at all…that would get me in with sufficient time to make my connection in Delhi.

Unless…

I flew 15hrs+ in economy class.

Sorry guys, I’m not going to fly 15-20 hours in economy class just for a six hours review on an airline that most of you won’t be likely to fly anytime soon. Gulf Air unfortunately has a limited route map and few partners.

So I made the painful decision to abandon the trip. Time is at a premium right now and when I have some more time in the future, I promise I’ll cobble together a great review trip, including Gulf Air.

CONCLUSION

Lucky forgot to book his Gulf Air award before the AA partnership ended. I wish I had also forgotten. Oh well, there is always the possibility of a future Asia Miles redemption on Gulf Air. And I haven’t redeposited the AA miles yet: maybe I’ll do another Middle East adventure, this time in business class (and limited to four segments).

I would be more interested in your 15+ hour economy class trip review than the one for Gulf Air. Please reconsider!

Do you have to pay any fees to cancel the award ticket?

This is literally a “I wouldn’t fly economy to India if you paid me” post…

I think there are times I would be willing to fly to India in economy class. Just not yesterday.
