Well, not really join me since this deal is only good for May and June next year, but LAN is offering round-trip fares from JFK to LIM for $245 including taxes. Book it on AA.com and be sure to check off search all carriers.
This is a great deal and a great way to get to Peru. I was in Lima yesterday evening and the airport is state-of-the-art, with the exception of an ardous departure tax they collect.
I have flown on LAN twice this year (including from Lima to Cusco this morning) and am very satisfied with thier in-flight service. Good IFE and decent food. The English skills of the FAs are not the best (even on my AKL-SYD LAN flight) and the legroom is tight, but I would take LA over AA in a hearbeat if I had to fly in Economy.
Also, do not expect to get off without spending much in Peru, especially if you want to see Machu Picchu. Internal flights are expensive, train tickets are expensive, and although the locals do not seem as agressive as Indians, Egyptians, or Turks (yeah, quite a blanket stereotype I know), vendors will still be aggressive unless you firmly put your foot down and say NO.
But, for $245 r/t, what have you got to lose? Makes a nice Memorial Day trip…
