Live and Let’s Fly Weekend Digest: March 26, 2017

Matthew Klint Posted onMarch 26, 2017April 9, 2017 Leave a Comment

Good afternoon from the Black Forrest of Baden Württemberg. It has been another busy but great week visiting family and friends. The coming week will also be busy, but there will be downtime as well.

The in-flight electronics ban has dominated travel headlines this week and rightfully so. I addressed in numerous posts:

  • Official Details on New USA Electronics Ban
  • Monkey See, Monkey Do: UK Will Copy USA In-Flight Electronics Ban
  • Why the In-Flight Electronics Ban Represents Poor Public Policy
  • Emirates Will Gate Check Your Banned In-Flight Electronic Devices
  • How to Maximize In-Flight Productivity On Your Mobile Phone

While I lament the ban, I do appreciate how carriers like Emirates are innovating to make the experience less painful for customers. Per the latest rumors, the ban will last for seven months. Hopefully it will be lifted earlier.

TOP STORY: Scary! Stranger Walks Into Our Hotel Room at 3AM

Well, at least it was comforting to read that I was not the only one who had someone walk in on them in the middle of the night. My follow-up post Am I the Only One Who Doesn’t Use Hotel Deadbolts? garnered even more comments. Don’t worry: I will always use the deadbolt now!

Will US Airlines Now Boycott Alitalia?

alitalia-style-04

Alitalia is a state-owned high subsidized carrier competing with U.S. airlines for jobs and profit. It just seems suspicious that Alitalia’s Milan to New York route is fine, but not Emirates on the same route. An active discussion ensued.

EVA Service

Although the review turned into more of a debate over whether I should publish old (previously unpublished) reports or not, I still cannot recommend EVA highly enough…even a few years later.

Here’s a look back at my posts over the last week—
