Review: Lufthansa A320ceo Business Class

After a long but lovely stay in the First Class Lounge, it was time for our final connection, a short hop from Munich to Dubrovnik. This Lufthansa business class review of the A320ceo (A320-200) will focus primarily on the meal.

Lufthansa A320ceo Business Class Review

We left the lounge quite late and were among the very last to board. I had some trouble finding the gate and find the signage at Munich Airport, at least in the H Gates area, rather poor.

This was the final segment of my LAX-JFK-FRA-MUC-DBV award ticket, booked using United MileagePlus miles. The A320ceo or “current engine option” is aging gracefully (with fresh livery) and is a mainstay of the Lufthansa short-haul fleet.

Lufthansa 1710
Munich (MUC) – Dubrovnik (DBV)
Wednesday, August 3
Depart: 2:30 PM
Arrive: 3:55 AM
Duration: 1hr, 25min
Distance: 509 miles
Aircraft: Airbus A320ceo (A320-200)
Seat: 2D (Business Class)

Onboard, we quickly found our seats, and the door shut behind us. Today, business class was only three rows and featured only four passengers.

The Recaro BL3520 “NEK” slimline seats are what they are…efficient. While fine for a 90-minute (actual flight time was just over an hour), I would not enjoy this poorly-padded seat on a longer flight.

Since we boarded so late, I was not able to get pictures of the cabin without encroaching on the privacy of others, so I’ll use these pictures from a previous flight to demonstrate the cabin:

a row of seats in an airplane

Seat pitch is 30 inches and there are no power ports. For the second flight in a row, the in-flight internet (Inmarsat GX) did not function. In business class, middle seats are blocked.

Food + Drink Onboard

What do you do when you review flights for a living but had just polished a huge feast in the lounge? You take the meal anyway and pick at it, so as to minimize waste.

A light lunch was served after takeoff which included a slice of salmon, two yellow cookie-like items which (as near as I could tell) had some squash in them, two zucchini balls, cauliflower, a beet slice, and a dollop of some quark-like cream. It was served with a hot bread roll and a dessert cake with orange nad coconut.

What a strange meal…and no menu card provided, leaving us all guessing exactly what those yellow cookies are…can anyone help?

After lunch, flight attendants offered a refill on beverages along with a piece of chocolate and an apple.

a yellow rectangular object with a logo on it

a small yellow box with white text and black text

a glass of water on a napkin

an apple in a paper wrapper

And that, folks, is about it. The internet did not work, I did not need to get up and use the lavatory, so I just leaned back and closed my eyes until we reached Dubrovnik.

CONCLUSION

My short A320ceo flight in Lufthansa Business Class flew by. I offer this very basic review just so you know what to expect on the A320, which these days is an economy class seat with the middle seat blocked and a light meal, usually with at least one object that is unidentifiable.

p.s. What is up with these European airports and their stairs? We had to walk down four flights of stairs to reach immigration. No escalators or elevators, despite everyone dragging hand baggage. When the airport also does not have air conditioning, I’m really not in the mood for exercise…

I have had to ask the FA frequently what my mystery meal was (which I do since I don’t eat meat) and have often been surprised. Hopefully a FA on your flight could have answered you but sometimes they aren’t given a ton of info about the catering either.

And agreed re stairs, especially in EU countries it seems ridiculous that they don’t have a better method or a requirement to better deal with this. Honestly one of the reasons I hate flying out of Frankfurt is bc despite it being LH home, they ALWAYS park my plane at the out gates and I ALWAYS have to take stairs and a bus which is annoying and SLOW.

I’m actually impressed, nothing like the sad breakfast I received on LH.This meal looks zen like,as well as fresh and healthy. To compare, aboard Swiss Ath-Zrh biz class ,which had spacious leg room and an attentive crew, there was a choice between what looked like steak and the delicious Engadine inspired ,gnocchi- like and salmon meal I chose. To Ath On KLM we had spaghetti and an ice cream bar.

‘What is up with these European airports and their stairs? We had to walk down four flights of stairs to reach immigration. No escalators or elevators, despite everyone dragging hand baggage.’

But we don’t have the obesity problems you do in the US!

The meal looks poorer than usual. I remember when LH catering at MUC was something to look forward to and much better than the FRA offering. That’s changed.

Corn cakes. Had them on an FRA-LHR flight at around the same time you were flying (and we were given a menu, or maybe it was posted on the tray).

Spirit has Wi-Fi, so you could argue that they have a superior in-flight experience to LH in economy. Lufthansa really needs to get their act together with Wi-Fi and power ports. I couldn’t imagine regional North America flying without a stable internet connection.

Lol obese or not when you have rollers and kids nine staircases are annoying. Just did the same route two weeks ago and found the h gates annoying to find. Wasn’t difficult but a little confusing. I was waiting for my wife and three different people asked me where the g gates were when I was upstairs. That’s even more confusing.

But the lounge was very nice. And the chocolate onboard great haha. 6.5k United miles for five seats 3 days out pretty good!!

Had virtually the same thing flying MUC to FCO a couple of days ago minus the apple and chocolate. Service and food were better than what I have seen on UA up front in comparable flights. And of course, the really fast boarding process. No complaints. We had escalators at MUC transferring though in a couple of parts of T2 it was on the hot side.
