I’m back from Germany and have a far more favorable impression of Lufthansa Premium Economy for daytime flights than for overnight flights.
I complained about my inability to sleep in Premium Economy on the trip over. Interestingly, on the way back I slept for five hours…not without interruption, but almost. I’ll chalk that up more to exhaustion than seat comfort, but it is only fair I mention it.
When I return to the States, I typically try to pre-acclimate by staying up the night before. If I can sleep through part of the flight, I can usually make it through the day without a nap. If I can avoid the nap, my jet lag is over after a good night’s rest.
So that worked well this flight. But I was still up for half the flight and found the seat to be comfortable for working. I was well hydrated with a large water bottle and frequent water runs by FAs. Food was better than on the flight out, with a nice lunch after takeoff and dinner prior to landing:
The cabin was kept cool, which makes a huge difference when individual air nozzles are not available. Furthermore, FAs were quite friendly and the purser was very engaging to all passengers.
CONCLUSION
My trip report will include both flights in one review, but note that after the flight back I have a much more favorable view of Lufthansa Premium Economy. I still recommend you choose business or first on eastbound flights, but the return should be no problem in Premium Economy.
