One of the many reasons I do not ride share drives at Uber or Lyft: when a passenger suddenly decides to point a gun at you for no good reason.

A disturbing video has been posted to Reddit which shows a woman in the backseat of the car pointing a gun toward the driver and laughing about it. It is not clear if the woman is intoxicated, which would have made the situation much more dangerous. She’s also smoking in the car, which is just rude.

Pointing a gun at anyone is a no-no. It is never okay unless you intend to kill that person. Joking with a gun or waving in the direction of anyone is disgusting and wrong. Each year in the USA there are hundreds who die from accidental gun discharges. If the gun was loaded, this could have been another casualty.
Even if the gun was not loaded, the driver could have turned around and shot her. That may have been a weak self-defense argument, but it certainly could have been another needless gun death.
From the video, it looks like one of the other passengers took the video and then (I guess?) posted it online. That’s a foolish move. But it is incidents like these that explain why so many Uber and Lyft drivers have dash cams in their cars.
CONCLUSION
I have to wonder how often this sort of thing occurs. Driving through cities late at night can’t be easy and it makes me better appreciate why old-school taxis have plexiglass barriers between the front and back seats. Kudos to the driver for keeping his calm. If you’re using rideshare, do us all a favor and leave your weapon at home…

I was thinking the exact same thing, I’ve seen lighters that look exactly like a gun and she is smoking … but how stupid can you be? And even if it was a lighter, how would the driver or anyone else know that? What if he believed it was a gun would have defended himself in some sort of way that caused injury or death to the lady … or had a police officer witnessed it and acted accordingly … again with a negative outcome, I don’t think anyone would be laughing and in today’s climate those passengers and the media would be blaming everyone and anyone but the actual idiot holding the gun/lighter … this was so wrong on so many levels. Especially if the gun was real … but even if it wasn’t … could have been disastrous in so many ways.
Society does not allow us to be honest that certain groups don’t possess the judgment, nature, and discipline to own guns and the big reason normal citizens need them is to protect themselves from these groups who commit unprovoked violence with their fists, knives, their cars, and guns. Since we are told we are all equal and the system is set up to require all rules and laws to apply equally, normal citizens will support gun rights because we need them to protect ourselves and can’t admit we oppose certain groups having them. If there was freedom in this country, normal citizens of European heritage would have their own communities free of groups that ruin every peace and tranquility. Crime statistics tell us what we know deep down but are brainwashed by every institution, school, and the media to deny. Anyone who believes in equality is brain dead.
