Airport lounges have become more innovate over the years in response to growing public concern over health. For example, the Finnair lounge in Helsinki has a sauna, the Thai lounge in Bangkok has a world-class spa, and Etihad’s first class lounge in Abu Dhabi has a fitness center. Soon an airport lounge will feature a swimming pool overlooking the tarmac.
In December 2017, Punta Cana International Airport in the Dominican Republican will open a new VIP lounge. According to pictures on Twitter (and reporting Travel + Leisure) the pool will overlook airport operations, offering aviation geeks the chance lay by the pool…and their aircraft.
No word on how the lounge will counteract the delightful smell of jet fumes…
Punta Cana already has two VIP lounges, both of which offer access to Priority Pass members. There is no word yet whether the new lounge will also be part of the Priority Pass network.
I’ve never been to the Dominican Republic before and look forward to eventually visiting, just as I look forward to visiting every nation state on this Earth. Punta Cana will also introduce Preclearance facilities later this year. That will allow you to clear immigration and custom formalities before stepping onto your flight, arriving in the USA as if on a domestic flight.
Would you go swimming before your flight?
(H/T: The Points Guy)
I certainly would. I’d also get to the airport like 6 hours before departure to use it. Great idea.
For sure I would go swimming here! I would arrive super early to go swimming here. Along with the Marina Bay Sands hotel in Singapore, this seems to be one of the coolest pool views! Sadly I don’t think I will see any A380’s at Punta Cana Airport, as shown in the top picture.
I didn’t realize that the A380 flew there.
Matthew, what countries have you still not been to? (give me the complete list)
No complete list now, but I have a huge gap in Africa, Oceania, and the Caribbean.
I”ve been to every nation in Europe except Andorra, most nations in Asia, and all but four in South America.
Out of curiosity have you been to North Korea before the ban against Americans going there went into effect today?
So is it Air Berlin or Condor who is flying an A380 into Punta Cana?
Maybe Southwest. 😉
