I’m a free agent this year when it comes to both hotels and airlines, so I branched out and tried the St. Regis Bangkok this time instead of a Hyatt property. These former Starwood properties in Southeast Asia tend to be gems and this stay was no exception.
St. Regis Bangkok – Suite Upgrade + Amazing Breakfast
For 40,000 points per night (versus $340), I figured the St. Regis was a great use of a Marriott 35k free night certificate (plus 5K Bonvoy point supplement), and it certainly was.

I was upgraded to a suite (Platinum status), which had a lovely living room, bedroom, and large bathroom with a soaking tub.

The hotel had a great wellness area with hot tubs and steam rooms, which I used right after checking in.

The St. Regis Bangkok also offers a nice outdoor pool:

Doing the wellness routine made me drowsy and I made the mistake of taking a nap at around 7:00 pm for “20 minutes,” then sleeping for eight hours…I mean, it could have been worse. I needed the rest and it saved me from going out to dinner, which probably would have been Taco Bell.
It was 3:00 am when I woke up and I used the quiet of the morning to get work done before working out at 6:00 am and then having breakfast at 7:00 am.

Breakfast was such a treat! There was a large buffet plus an a la carte menu and everything was delicious and high quality. I really enjoyed the coffee, fresh-squeezed juices, avocado toast, omelets, and salad bar. That 7:00 am breakfast fueled me for the rest of the day until I had dinner on my Thai Airways flight late in the afternoon.

I’ll have a lot more pictures and more details about the stay in my full review, but like the Grand Hyatt Erawan a few doors down, this is a very nice, somewhat old-school Bangkok hotel.
Next stop: lounge hopping in BKK
I’m sharing about my whirlwind trip through Asia.

“it saved me from going out to dinner, which probably would have been Taco Bell.”
♂️
So… ‘Bangkok… has (you) now?’
I’ll look forward to the full report, but I always been partial to the Erawan.
Taco Bell? Good lord, you’re in Bangkok! Eat some real Thai food!!!
Beautiful! I’ve never stayed at a St. Regis I didn’t like.
+1 on the Bell!!!
Love this hotel — one of the best I’ve ever stayed at.
What a stupid waste of hotel points…..fly to bkk and stay at a luxury hotel…..you didn’t go to bkk….you went to the st regis…..7000 miles away.
Maybe try doing something actually interesting and reflective of where you go……eg. The Atlanta hotel in bkk……do you even know if it?….. probably not. On the other hand, maybe don’t…..someone from the embassy would have to come rescue you and place you back into an uber luxury hotel before you have a panic attack and croak right there in the middle of actual Bangkok.
You seem to miss my business model.
That’s true…. Your business model goes right over my head.
You have a quite a patience with the trolls. On the other hand i do understand your obsession eating Mexican outside of US But Taco bell and especially in Bangkok with all the options is a heresy. (in my opinion of course)
The Atlanta is a little spartan for many travelers. Personally my favourite hotel in Bangkok is the Sukhothai, but you do you, bro.
Matthew,
Thanks for the great review!
If you had to choose between the Park Hyatt, Waldorf, or St Regis Bangkok all with AMEX FHR benefits, which would you say is the most luxurious hard product and best staff? Thanks!

This is the test to check whether i am kinda blocked (i do not see a reason why) or there is something going on with the website. My 2 previous comments did not appear
It’s a shame about the furnishings (carpets, furniture fabrics, dark wooden furniture, colour of the wooden floorboards) in this hotel… It really does date it and make it look daggy as it clashes with the actual building itself and other design elements.
