Not only does the TSA screen flight attendants, now it will serve meals as well…at the U.S. Southern Border.
As the busy summer travel season heats up, President Trump is sending TSA agents to the Southern Border, including Federal Air Marshals.
Per USA Today, TSA roles will include “meal preparation, property management, and legal assistance to process the thousands of asylum claims being made each month.”
As detailed in an email to staff, the TSA is sending 400 agents. The email added, “We also understand that we are accepting some risk as we enter a very busy summer.”
The TSA clarified that it is seeking volunteers first:
TSA, like all DHS components, is supporting the DHS effort to address the humanitarian and security crisis at the southwest border. TSA is in the process of soliciting volunteers to support this effort while minimizing operational impact.
Not everyone is happy, though. The U.S. Travel Association issued a statement saying:
Further stretching CBP and TSA resources — especially headed into the busiest time of year at our nation’s airports and points of entry — clearly could result in turmoil for business and leisure travel that supports millions of livelihoods all across the country.
And the notion that the impact will be “minimal” is questionable…wait times for customs and border control are spiraling out-of-control as DHS agents have been redeployed to the Southern Border. I’m not sure the TSA situation will be much different.
CONCLUSION
News like this makes me very thankful for PreCheck and Clear. That said, while I hope the TSA redeployment has no little to no affect on crowds, I have my doubts…

That’s all they qualified for, what a joke. It says a lot about who we trust to secure our airports.
I’ve yet to see any evidence that uniformed officers who perform screening functions are being deployed. Contrary to that implication, the internal memo that has been posted said uniformed officers are not eligible. Can you show us otherwise?
I am a former TSA Officer. I would like to participate in this effort.
I would totally go do this if I still worked for the TSA. Maybe there should be a US Humanitarian Force that is hired specifically to do these temporary but necessary tasks instead of draining the resources of already overextended agencies.
Gary is gonna have a field day on this one. I’ll make popcorn.
What business is it of yours? Who are you that you need to know if uniformed personnel are going to the border? What makes you so important?
And yes, not that it’s any of your business, officers are, in fact, being sent there.
Agreed. It’s none of the taxpayers’ business what the government is doing.
