US Airways 100% Bonus on Shared Miles is Back!

Matthew Klint Posted onSeptember 30, 2013December 9, 2016 1 Comment

Last week I highlighted the benefits of US Airways’ frequent 100% bonus on purchased miles promotion and predicted it would be back this month. Instead, US Airways has announced an even better promotion! Through October 15, 2013 US Airways is offering a 100% bonus on Dividend Miles transferred from one account to another. For those with miles already, this deal is even more cost-effective.

The promotion works like this: you can transfer up to 50K miles at a cost of one cent per mile along with a 7.5% tax and $30 fee. So say you have 50K in your account and transfer those 50K to a spouse or friend–for a cost of $567.50 you will have added 50,000 miles to your collection!

Compliment your points with the US Airways MasterCard and read about how I just used 90K US Airways points to book a trip around the word. You might even considering moving some Starwood Preferred Guest points over to US Airways in order to fully take advantage of this offer, though remember that Starwood transfers can take up to two weeks to complete, so you’ll want to move now.

Even with no specific bookings in mind, I recommend taking advantage of this promotion if you have the points in your account already or can get them there before October 15th through Starwood. Might it also be the swan song for cheap points from US Airways? Not likely, but I would not pass up this offer now.

Swan song? Who knows but the shared bonus offer duration is only for 2 weeks, while the merger trial is set for 26 Nov. Thinking back, I believe USAir made a share bonus offer for 2 weeks then extended it for another 2 weeks. A good strategy as many will see this as a last chance before merger. I am going for the max miles, the best offer to buy miles anywhere. Glad I kept my powder dry and didn’t bite on the last two offers at 1.75 p/m as I was hedging that they would follow-up with the share offer after a volley of 2 100% buys – they did this last year.
