$5 Drinks During "Happy Hour" on American Airlines

Matthew Klint Posted onNovember 18, 2010 1 Comment

If you find yourself behind the curtain next month on American Airlines’ during the five o’clock hour, you’ll have a chance to take advantage of AA’s "5@5" happy hour promotion.

Currently, if you want an adult beverage on AA you’ve got to pony up $6 for beer and $7 for wine and other liquor. For flights departing between 5:00-5:59p next month, drinks will be discounted to $5 (for the duration of the flight). Soft drinks, milk, water, and juices will still be free.

AA’s press release is carefully worded: it’s only going to be available on select flights and its not clear whether this is a temporary or long-term promotion.

Let’s hope AA lets its FAs know about the sale–UA conveniently forgot to notify the FAs during the free drinks in Economy Plus promotion earlier this year.

I would have loved something like this back in my consulting/commuting days. I flew AA ORD-PHL-ORD every week for 8 months in 1998, and was always on a departure at that time. I think drinks were still $5 then (or less?). Nice promotion idea.
