My Bath With A KLM 747-400

Earlier this week I had the chance to spend a night at the brand-new Grand Hyatt at San Francisco International Airport. Not only did I score a nice suite upgrade, I had an incredible view from the bathtub.

The new airport hotel at SFO is modern and beautiful. Soaring ceilings, contemporary furniture, and stained glass make the common areas very inviting. It’s also extremely easy to reach from any of the terminals and still tranquil in its first month in business.

Due to relatively low occupancy and my World of Hyatt Globalists status, I was upgraded to a corner suite on the 11th floor, room 1102. During check-in, I was only told that if I liked airplanes, I would love this room.

As I entered my “runway view” suite, a huge grin spread across my face. Not only was the suite well-appointed and bathroom huge, the views were just amazing.

I think nothing says it all like the views from the bathtub:

I really don’t know why the KLM 747-400 was parked there, but I wasn’t about to complain. It stayed there all night and was still sitting there in the morning.

I’m not generally a bath person, but who could turn down a bath with views of a 747-400?!

As an aside, that view from the tub were not the only reason the bathroom was my favorite room in the suite. The shower was also excellent and the advanced Toto toilet literally warmed my heart and soul (and butt).

I’ll shortly publish a very detailed review of this property, followed by a review of the offsite Hyatt Regency SFO, then do a comparison post.

But in terms of initial impressions, I love the new Grand Hyatt SFO on so many levels, though especially from my bathtub in Suite 1102…

If that was an AA plane, you could have mooned it all night long.

That being said, how long do you think before you have butt cheeks imprinted on the window?

KLM606 SFO Tower, is there a reason why we can see Matthew Klint getting out of a bath tub directly in front of us? 😉

My wife and I will be at SFO on November 8. We booked a room out at the Grand Hyatt SFO and canceled our booking at the Hyatt Regency SFO. Looking forward to our stay there.

I hope (I like the airport hotel in Denver) that those are one way windows.

“I really don’t know why the KLM 747-400 was parked there”… Apparently it was scheduled to fly as KL606 on the 21st, but that flight looks cancelled and it left a day later on the 22nd as KL608 (source: https://www.flightradar24.com/data/aircraft/ph-bfg). So I guess it was pretty special it was sitting there right at the night of your stay 🙂
