With an overwhelming response from the New York Times’ coverage of my Award Expert service and a busy week in Frankfurt, I have been “dark” for the last four days–a first for this blog. With little sleep and an ever-growing workload, I needed an escape for the weekend–a getaway where I could set aside work (even if not for the whole day) and enjoy nature. That recipe called for Ireland. And the trip was a great one.
Going to Dublin was not enough–I flew there last year and though a great city, I wanted to get out to the Irish countryside. So a colleague from Star Alliance and I flew standby to Dublin then booked an Aer Lingus internal flight to Kerry County, near the southwest coast.
Getting out of Frankfurt is a story in itself, but we finally made it to the west and had a wonderful weekend driving through the countryside, staying in Dingle on Saturday and Doolin (near the amazing Cliffs of Moher) last night. Despite the damp and gray weather, the experience was great–most notably the interactions we had with others and the great Irish music.
But now it is time to fly back to Frankfurt and return to reality. I have a busy week ahead of me.
Does this mean you missed out on the SQ goodness/madness?
@David: 😉
Sounds like a good trip. Also explains why I haven’t heard from you about my mileage award query. No rush – welcome home.
