Adria Airways Business Class Supper

Each week, my Meal of the Week feature examines an airline meal from my travels over the years. This may be a meal from earlier in the week or it may be a meal served over a decade ago.

This week, I cover a small (former) European member of Star Alliance, Adria Airways.

What’s the difference between dinner and supper? Perhaps it is more colloquial, but I consider supper a lighter evening meal than dinner. This 8:40 P.M. departure featured a light meal, though maybe that was more a consequence of the CRJ-200 my flight was on.

The flight from Frankfurt (FRA) to Ljubljana (LJU), Slovenia (pronounced loo-blee-ah-nuh and also known as Melania Land) was only one hour and a FA whipped out the meals shortly after takeoff. The bread had already been warming in the oven prior to takeoff. I was one of two passengers in the six-seat business class cabin.

Supper included sliced chicken breast (served cold) with picked vegetables, two hot bread rolls, slicked cheese, and cake. At the beckoning of the FA, I also tried a glass of Slovenian white wine.

I had enjoyed an appetizer dinner in the Lufthansa lounge prior to the flight (a big heaping plate of pasta), but did make myself one sandwich with chicken, cheese, and the single fig on the cheese plate. Very enjoyable. I skipped the cake but enjoyed a chocolate truffle.

CONCLUSION

I always love trying new airlines. This was my first flight on Adria and technically my only one on the Slovenian carrier and Star Alliance member before it ceased operations in 2019 (unless you count my SWISS Saab 2000 flight from Zurich to Lugano operated by Adria). I spent a day in Ljubljana and loved it. Hopefully, there will be an opportunity to return on a future date and maybe we’ll see a new flag carrier of Slovenia one day.

Good reference of Slovenia as Melania Land .

During 2020 Winter Olympics , Slovenia had the most photogenic entry-parade team uniforms . Their uniforms were described as ” Healthy , Green , and Active “

Travel to Slovenia is up 23% this year. Of course that’s AI, or if you’re one of Trump’s bigger idiot secretary of education, it’s A One like the steak sauce, that believes we should teach the children A One.

Sorry I love that story. The worshipers should feel great dear leader & family made 5 B on Monday. Yep that will hire a lot of new trolls.

It is a pity that both Croatia and Slovenia decided on ceding from Yugoslavia to form independent airlines, had they worked together they would have had a much stronger presence and would have grown as one. Instead, we have Croatia struggling and Adria gone.

There was a rumour a couple of years back the Aegean were looking at buying out Croatia but nothing has come of it which is a pity. I’ve often heard Croatia crews say that they are constantly told they need to be more like Aegean which is great, service that passengers on a US airline could only dream of but in reality, Croatia are pretty good too. The trouble is they operate in the shadow of Lufthansa and to a point, have to toe the line and provide feeder traffic.

I don’t think that’s the reason they ceded from Yugoslavia…but youbare right, they and some of the other former Yugoslavian coubtries could have still had a joint airline after ceding, kind of like Gulf Air used to be before Qatar, Oman, and Abu Dhabi all pulled out if it.
