It’s a good time for the Greek airline. With no state-run competition from Olympic and an improving economy, Aegean is profitable. Revenue and load factors are also up. The route additions will mean Aegean offers 10.3 million seats in the international network and 17.7 million total seats, which are quite impressive for a regional airline.
Aegean CEO Dimitris Gerogiannis said:
We consistently create new destination options for our passengers, along with the offer of new services. We consistently and constantly respond to the significant new investments of tourism entrepreneurs who offer new upgraded hotel units, trying also from our side to contribute to the extension of the tourism period. This effort will allow us to exploit our own investments in aircrafts and technology. The coordinated contribution and investment from industry stakeholders together with the right State policies that would promote sector competitiveness can lead to the further development of Greece’s Tourism product.
Note the undertone: Aegean thrives due to its lack of competition. In some sense, that really sells Aegean short.
I’ve always enjoyed flying Aegean and look forward to flying this boutique airline against this year.
Will you fly of Aegean’s new routes?

Flew Aegean return from Rome to Athens and Athens to Santorini. It felt like a solid regional carrier with some nice little touches that made it stand out. Glad to see it doing well.
I love Aegean. Spick and span and friendly crew.
That flight attendant looks like Daenerys targereyen
Ryanair have pulled of almost all their services to Greece and all their domestic services because they could not compete with the value for money Aegean offers which is excellent. There are few airlines I look forward to flying with these days but I certainly do when I fly Aegean – four sectors coming up in the next couple of weeks.
Phil, will these be in economy or business? I think Aegean is even a pleasure to fly economy class in. I love the onboard catering.
Matthew, they are all sectors in business – LHR-ATH-HER-ATH-LHR, I’m an A3 *G so have upgrade vouchers I use on Greek domestic sectors because they are very highly priced either as independent sectors – upwards of €120/ sector or they increase LHR-ATH by a similarly large amount if you book as one ticket.
I agree, the food is excellent. My hope is that while Aegean is very profitable the new management in the now absence of Theodore Vassilakis who you probably know died last year, do not start trying to increase profits at the cost of service which was something Theodore was passionate about and he drove personally through every level of the company. It’s the thing that makes Aegean special.
Enjoy your trip!
Pity they don’t start long haul: eg, there is no direct ATH-BKK ( Olympic did it, Thai flirted with it) but nothing for years now. They would do well with a reasonably priced service on that sector.
Agree!
