Just a warning to those of you flying Aeromexico or on a SkyTeam carrier from Mexico City (MEX): two flagship lounges are closed for 11 months with few viable alternatives.
Aeromexico Closed Both Flagship Lounges In Mexico City
Both international and national Salon Premier lounges in Mexico City (MEX) were closed temporarily on February 10, 2025. Newly renovated international and domestic Salon Premier lounges are slated to reopen in December 2025.
Aeromexico says it is renovating these lounges “to provide you with a renewed space where you can enjoy greater comfort and exclusivity on every journey and adds that “closing both lounges simultaneously allows us to optimize construction efforts and deliver a fully upgraded experience in the shortest possible time.”
But in terms of providing alternates, Aeromexico only suggests a “co-branded card.”

And disturbingly, this language is buried deep on the Aeromexico website, with passengers not made aware of these lounge closures when booking tickets.
The Aeromexico Terraza Premier by Heineken is apparently still open, but that is a small lounge and I can only imagine that is very crowded now (although it is no longer a Priority Pass Lounge).
There are other Priority Pass lounges still available and the American Express Centurion Lounge is not bad at all (though I realize I may be in the minority with that assessment).
But it strikes me as very odd that Aeromexico would close both lounges at once, at least without providing viable alternatives, even if that is just in the form of generous vouchers so that premium cabin and status passengers can enjoy some food and drink in the terminal ahead of their flight.
CONCLUSION
Keep in mind that Aeromexico’s main lounges for both domestic and international departures are currently closed through December 2025.
While I would not necessarily avoid flying through MEX during this time (the lounges were not particularly great in the first place), this will make terminal areas and other lounges even more crowded. Hopefully, the wait will be worthwhile and Aeromexico will offer true flagship lounge facilities once the renovation is complete.
@ Matthew — Yet another reason to avoid this horrible airport.
I’m thankful I’m not chasing Delta status because I know the premium fares originating in Mexico City are much cheaper than from USA.
That used to be the reason we went there, but it’s no longer worth, especially in 2025 with this lounge mess. Maybe in a future year.
Can’t you get the same fares from NLU, or indeed GDL/TIJ/CUN/MTY etc?
Wouldn’t expect any different for AeroMexico.
I remember they canceled flights to/from the US when COVID hit but decided to try to illegally force people to accept flight credit as the only option and refused any refunds unless you went through the DOT.
If you end up in this hellhole, no lounge access is the least of your problems.
Conclusion….stop supporting Nations that allow criminals access to their country to travel to America, while allowing drug cartels to freely operate in their country.
I’m an America and even though Trump has allowed criminals to enter the country (if they’re willing to put up $5 million dollars) I’ll still support my country. Maybe not my government
Willing to bet that you supported allowing in 10 million illegals including thousands of known criminals and gang members before this year…
Lol. You trigger so easily.
What a bunch of Trumpotato loosers… Get a life, stop whinning and look at the real white colllar criminals.. would you get Social Security?? Ask Elon..
Stop your little miniature brain. This country is going to a hellhole thanks to people like you who voted to elect White Collar Real Criminals…
I had a fine enough experience at the MEX Centurion Lounge back in ’21 or so. It was no worse than the lounge that Emirates uses at SFO.
Mexico City is just an awful airport.
How is this even allowed under Sky Team?
Alliance rules only regulate the terms of access to lounges and don’t extend to the existence of facilities. This is the same across all three alliances, and *A airlines are arguably the worst offenders as they’ve got a history of getting rid of contract lounges – it started off with SK and TP who are no longer a problem (the former switched to SkyTeam, the latter reinstated the contracts) and then spread across to UA (who even imposed a rule change to exclude *G from lounges that it uses for business pax), Avianca (they have multiple daily long-hauls from MAD with no lounge arrangements) and even LH (they suspended contracts during the pandemic).
Very premium partner
Was there last week, its chaos at all the other lounges in terminal 2. For a while connecting passengers are better off sitting at one of the sit down restaurants in the concourse, my personal favorite: Mayson Kayser.
Unsure if the terrazza premier is also open though.
Amex lounge in Mex isn’t bad. Set meal choices are solid. Showers are available on request. With Amex big push in CDMX it’s definitely getting more crowded though. It’s a big win in the end if AM does a decent job with the T2 lounge. They did have barista coffee before they closed 😉
This site is SO heavy with ads that it’s barely readable. Kept locking up when attempting to scroll down, text that disappears then reappears.
You should fix it.
Are you on mobile? I’m sorry…that’s not the way it is supposed to be.
Beware that the Centurion does NOT accept the Delta Reserve. This is absurd because a) other international Centurion DO accept Reserve, and b) Delta has flights at MEX. Diamond Medallion flying in F on Aeromexico and I was told no dice.
LOL what a terrible airline.
