Alaska Airlines Flight Diverts After Passenger Threatens To Kill All Passengers

Alaska Passenger Threatens Kill

An Alaska Airlines redeye flight bound for Chicago was anything but restful on Saturday night. Why? Oh, tight legroom, no pillows, and  a passenger who threatens to kill everyone else onboard…

Alaska Airlines Diversion After Passenger Threatens To Kill Other Passengers…In The Name Of Jesus

AS422 from Seattle (SEA) to Chicago (ORD) left Sea-Tac at 11:10PM on Saturday night. A man onboard became “extremely belligerent and physically aggressive during the ascent” according to an Alaska Airlines spokesperson. But flight attendants with the help of two other passengers quickly subdued the passenger, who was wearing a mask.

One passenger was an off-duty Chicago police officer, who used force to pin the man down on a seat and restrain him until the plane returned to Seattle. Before he was subdued, the man shouted:

“I’m going to kill everybody on this plane. Die in the name of Jesus!”

He also said:

“I will kill everybody on this plane unless you accept Jesus was a black man.”

The incident was captured on video, which you can watch below.

Jesus Chronicles v666b… This is what Christianity does to extremist loons. On Alaska Air Flight 422, a young white evangelical guy screams “Die in the name of JESUS” and “Die in the name of the HOLY GHOST.” The Lord would be proud…#ChristianLunacy pic.twitter.com/Sm533RRm92

I feel compelled to add, just because someone throws around the term Jesus or Holy Ghost does not make them a Christian…

The Seattle Times posted a longer version:

After returning to Seattle, the flight was canceled and passengers were rebooked on the next flight to Chicago.

By the time the aircraft landed, the man had calmed down and was cooperative with law enforcement on the ground. He was taken to jail where he awaits arraignment. He will be charged with harassment.

CONCLUSION

First, I hope the clearly deranged man gets the help he needs. Second, I hope he is held accountable for the time and cost of his tirade. Third, threatening murder in the name of God is the essence of what it means to take God’s name in vain (the third commandment…it’s not saying OMG…).

Well, at least Big Mo wasn’t to blame for this one. As an atheist, I wonder whose name I would call upon should I wish a little bit of inflight mayhem.

If they’re all going to die anyway, why is the man bothering to wear a mask? It seems clear this is a plant of hoax meant to make Xtians looks bad. And I’m no Xtian.

Looks like the guy actually said, “I will kill everybody on this plane unless you accept Jesus was a black man.”

Could it be that you mean the Second Commandment?

In some traditions it is the second, but I consider it the third.

Is it time for every plane to be equipped with a lockable, soundproof jail cell so flights can continue to their destinations when disrupted by unruly fools, instead of having to divert?

      That would be an upgrade

2 questions- Why is he NOT in jail for his action/interference with the flight and all passengers? Why didn’t Alaska sue him for all costs, e.g. fuel, overtime for crew, pilot, gate agents, cost of compensation to passengers for the delay…?
