My Birthday Gift From American Airlines

A package arrived in the mail just in time for my birthday. While the package was not sent from American Airlines, I ultimately consider it a gift from American Airlines.

My Birthday Present “Courtesy Of” American Airlines

I recently shared about the overcapacity of salted mixed nuts available at reduced prices from the supplier who serves both American Airlines and United Airlines.

As Kim Peacock of GreatNuts.com stated:

“I have 50,000 pounds of nuts American Airlines and United didn’t want! We’re feeling sad. We’re sitting on a lot of nuts.”

The result was a fire sale on mixed nuts, with the “first class” mix available for $6.52/pound with free shipping. That mix included:

  • almonds
  • cashews
  • pecans
  • pistachios

Mixed nuts are a healthier treat than potato chips or candy, so I decided to stock up on nuts for our household. I love that pistachios are part of the mix, which I never see for less than $15/pound unshelled.

A large boxed arrived via USPS Priority Mail:

a white box on a wood floor

With the nuts inside it!

a box of nuts in plastic bags

a bag of nuts with a label

And I’m pleased to report they have not gone stale! My only complaint is the cashews are broken!

CONCLUSION

I’m a man of simple tastes. I’ll certainly splurge for nice hotels and upgrades when using points or miles, but those who know me best know I rarely spend money on creature comforts beyond coffee. But these mixed nuts will be a very nice treat that will hopefully last for months if I can avoid snacking on them (and keep my wife and son from doing the same thing!).

You went to the trouble of ordering American Airlines first class nuts and you didn’t go for the Hawaiian mix? Now if anyone knows where to buy the BA nuts…

I must admit, the pina colada pecans and pineapple bits sounded horrible!

If you freeze them, they will hold awhile. Also, head to your local liquor store and pick up a few minnies and make believe the wife is first captain of your flt to la la land:)

I’ve been looking for minis of Meyers dark rum. Seems like they are permanently back-ordered!

Don’t forget to warm the nut mix before snacking. Always serve in a ramekin, never just out of the bag. 😉

I’m still scratching my head as to why, if American has all these nuts, they don’t just SERVE THEM to passengers.
    What a nutty airline…!

Mine arrived today too – just heated up a ramekin to eat while watching Perry Mason. It’s a bit embarrassing how much fun this, they’re just mixed nuts c/o any peanuts after all…

I got mine today too, but they don’t have those fancy labels on them. Mine have nutrition facts on one side and the bag is stamped “property of American Airlines” and the expiration date. I would guess those stickers on yours are over the AA stamp.

    Happy Birthday!

    Enjoy the nuts!

Sorry to be a bearer of bad news but little kids shouldn’t eat nuts because of a choke hazard. Our family knows a family whose kid died that way. 5 year olds can eat nuts. 4 years old under strict supervision and rationing out one nut at time. Never Macadamias, especially whole ones.

Oh my. He has been eating nuts like crazy since he was two years old. We’ll have to keep a close eye on him.

Heart healthy but rub off the salt please .
Actually just once in my 65 years of life did a major company actually send me something as a thank you. JCP send the nice Willow Old Town Key tag worth about $0.60 from Hong Kong. Actually companies would probably do much better if they realized your customers are where they make money. Large companies have the ability to make their services and products much more fun for loyal customers. As an example why don’t those in the travel industry Airlines and hotels and car companies occasionally run auctions for charity the trip syndrome starting at $8 so that those with large loyalty bonus points can contribute and get additional vacations on the cheap while doing good for humanity. They can also make their service is a lot more fun by doing Simple Things like hotels giving away movie tickets what DVD rentals or $5 coupons for the restaurants in there hotels. Well you get my drift. Now we need some marketing people to pick up on my ideas. Even singing flight stewardess has or nice
