With border restrictions placing severe limits on international travel, ANA has offered monthly “flights to nowhere” onboard its iconic Airbus A380 aircraft. Next month it will offer two flights instead of one, with first class seats selling for under $1,000.

ANA A380 Flights To Nowhere

Japanese travelers, like so many around the world, are anxious to get in the back air. So when All Nippon Airways (ANA) offered the chance to take a flight to nowhere, flights sold out within minutes.

In fact, the flights proved so popular ANA has continued to offer them during the pandemic and will offer two longer flights in March 2021. One will depart on March 20th and a second on March 29th.

Each flight will last 3.5 hours and include a meal service and other onboard amenities to make it feel like the good old days.

  • Economy (overwing window) – ¥37,000 (~$352)
  • Economy (aisle) – ¥34,000 (~$324)

In case you are wondering, Krug will be flowing in first class.

You can apply for a seat here. The application period is open from Wednesday, February 3, 2021 13:00 to Wednesday, February 17, 2021 10:00 Japan time. After that point, winners will be chosen at random with winners for the March 20th charter notified on February 24th and winners for the March 29th charter notified on February 26, 2021.

Note to my readers outside of Japan – don’t bother to sign up for this unless you have access to Japan…this will be considered a domestic flight.

ANA is one of the best airlines in the world and I love the ANA A380, which I flew in first class from Honolulu to Tokyo in 2019 (full review here)

I suppose there is no need for flights to nowhere when you can board a 787-10 in-flight office and travel between Los Angeles and New York and return same-day, but I’m sure the company would be especially lovely on these sorts of flights.

CONCLUSION

ANA will offer A380 flights to nowhere again in March. Starting today, you can enter the lottery for a ticket aboard. Prices range from $324 for economy class to $971 for first class.

Would you step onto a flight to nowhere just for the experience?

I’ve been saying it and I will again: Recovery will bounce back almost instantly once countries reopen for business. This story from the travel industry of “recovery will take many years” is total nonsense and a grab for taxpayer handouts. The public is super eager to get back out there and travel. You can see that on domestic travel like this one in Japan — this is happening all over the world. Once borders reopen and the vaccine rollout continues to increase you’ll see an explosion — watch.

Absolutely correct. I am scheduled for my Covid vaccines and as soon as I get them, I will be back in the air. St. Johns here I come as well as the Ireland trip we hope to make in September,
