The Andaz Bali is a luxurious resort in Bali’s Sanur neighborhood with plush accommodations and a very nice breakfast spread.

Andaz Bali Review

After a night at the Hyatt Regency, I moved next door to the Andaz. The two properties are connected by footpath.

This hotel was double the price of the Hyatt Regency (about $270), but I was not about to pass up the opportunity to give it a try while in Bali.

If you do happen to be starting from the Hyatt Regency, just follow the signs for the Andaz. It’s a 5-7 minute walk.

a sign post with different directions

a gate to a house

a path with trees and plants

a gazebo in a park

a person in an orange suit in a pond

a room with chairs and a plant

a building with palm trees and a walkway

You can also enter from the street:

a car parked on a road with trees and plants

A welcome drink was offered at check-in:

a glass with a drink and a slice of celery on it

Room

Upon arrival, I was warmly greeted and checked in, then escorted to my room. I had been upgraded to a lagoon access room, 3103, in the Dangin building.

The bathroom was large, with a separate tub and two sinks.

a shower head on a wall

a light in a wall

a group of white containers with black labels

boxes on a table
Well-stocked amenities in Andaz Bali bathroom

Large closet too:

a swinger in a room

a small black safe in a closet

I loved the room itself (it reminded me of the layout of Hotel Sofia in Barcelona), but the coolest part of the room was the terrace which had direct access to a pool leading out to the beach. A superb design!

The room is well-appointed with power plugs on virtually every wall as well as USB-A ports. Controlling the lights can be a bit challenging, but you will get the hang of it.

In-room coffee and tea included a Nespresso machine and a cute green tea kettle.

a coffee machine and a container on a tray

a table with a group of glasses and teacups

a teapot and cups on a tray

a hand holding a cup of coffee

At Andaz hotel, snacks and non-alcoholic drinks in the minibar are also complimentary:

a refrigerator drawer with drinks and snacks

a drawer with a variety of food items

I even loved the alarm clock in the room, which was such a nice change from the usual digital clock (often 20 minute off).

a wooden and silver radio with a clock on a counter

Laundry service, shoe shine, and sandals for use on the property were also present in the room.

a drawer with papers and a brush

a pair of sandals in a drawer

Welcome gift:

a plate of oranges and a ceramic frog on a table

a bowl of food on a table
These salty snacks were great!

I loved the souvenir case the room key was placed in.

a purple and pink patterned book

Breakfast

As lovely as the guest room was, my favorite part of this property was the Village Market Breakfast in the morning. Rather than buffet-style (beyond the bakery), you are presented with a large menu and invited to order as little or as much as you want off of it:

a paper with text on it

a paper with text on it

a large oval table with a wooden surface

Not only was the selection excellent, but so was the quality.

a bowl of fruit on a plate

a bowl of food on a table

a croissant on a wooden board

a bowl of guacamole and croissant

A very enjoyable breakfast…excellent coffee too.

Breakfast runs until 11:00 am.

Lounge

The hotel offers a lounge for hotel guests with snacks and drinks available throughout the day (and alcoholic drinks nightly between 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM). Cigars are offered for sale.

Pools + Beach

In addition to several pools, this is a beachfront property with

a pool with trees and a walkway

a gazebo next to a pond surrounded by trees

a path through a garden

a group of fish swimming in a pond
Sometimes it was hard to distinguish the ornamental pools from the swimming pools..

Food + Drink

I mentioned the breakfast, which offers a blend of the four restaurants which make up the Village Square:

  • Wok Wok – Indonesian favorites
  • Blue Oven – Mediterranean cuisines
  • Fire Fox – Asian steakhouse
  • Deli & Bakery – coffee, tea, dessert

a patio with chairs and umbrellas

The Fisherman’s Club is located on the beach and is open for lunch and dinner daily and breakfast on weekends.

a room with tables and chairs

Finally, in room dining is available 24/7.

Spa + Fitness Center

A spa and fitness center are shared by the Hyatt Regency next-door, though feels much more like it is part of the Regency than the Andaz. That said, I understand it made little sense to construct a separate spa and fitness center for the two properties.

The entire spa complex is large with a swimming pool as well as several ponds with lily pads used for decoration.

The fitness center includes mostly cardio equipment, though there are free weights and resistance machines available.

Service Issue + Recovery

I had a service issue here that I did choose to address. I’ll do a separate post on this, but to make my review complete, I will say here that I did encounter one surprisingly hostile employee at breakfast who refused to make me coffee (cleaning it was tool late even though breakfast was still running for five more minutes), but the hotel handled the issue perfectly.

CONCLUSION

I had a very nice stay at the Andaz Bali. Overall, the service was wonderful and the room and common areas were great. Best of all, though, was the breakfast menu, which had virtually everything you could have wanted and was all top-quality. I would return to this resort.

Hotel looks great but that beach looks horrendous.

I stayed at both the HR and the Andaz and am returning to both next month. I can’t wait!

I’ve stayed at the HR many times, and love their Regency and Executive Suites. In your opinion, is the Andaz worth double the price?

No. I love the Andaz, but I cannot say it was worth double. But the breakfast I found much better…it really is a selling point.

The Grand Hyatt Bali has a spectacular club lounge and the suites are off the chain but the location is nowhere near as good as the HR in Sanur which is my preferred beach hotel in Bali.

    Matthew,

I know from experience that Bali is very hot and humid. Just curious, what is the typical or recommended guest attire for such a property?

      Very casual.

I live nearby the Hyatt and do almost daily walks on or near the beach. The beach in front of the Hyatt Regency is nicer than the beach in front of the Andaz. Fewer boats and it is cleaner. But neither beach is great. When I want to spend a day on the beach I go east to Virgin beach or to Legian (Double 6 beach) or I check into the Grand Hyatt in Nusa Dua.

Having recently visited Indonesia (both Jakarta and an island resort), that price seems obscene. I stayed in well-appointed junior suites in solid 4* properties paying about a fifth of the rate mentioned here. I know that we aren’t talking huge amounts of money in absolute terms, but I would still struggle to justify spending an extra $1500 in order to basically stay in a resort with great breakfast.

Exactly. Anyone paying Andaz rates in Bali is a White Devil sucker. Stay at any nearby local resort for ⅕ the price and pay a $20 consumable daily beach club fee at any of the many Sanur hotel beach clubs!

Sounds like guerilla marketing by a Chinese vacuum cleaner manufacturer.

I have been to Bali a bunch of times including a couple of weeks ago and have probably spent half a year there in sum over the past decade but I have never heard the term used before. Devil is a distinctly Chinese term that I’ve come across used for foreigners before though.

You missed mentioning about a colony of wild cockatoos residing on the hotel grounds. The resort, during build, kept most of the existing mature trees where the cockatoos lived already.
