Miss Congeniality: Angry American Airlines Passenger Spits And Shoves Her Way Through Baggage Claim

a woman with her mouth open

An irate American Airlines passenger became even more enraged when her fellow passengers protested her foul language and rude behavior while waiting for her baggage in Ohio.

American Airlines Passenger Reacts Violently To Being Told To Watch Her Mouth

The undated incident takes place at an American Airlines baggage carousel in Columbus, Ohio (CMH). It is not clear what agitated the woman in the first place, but she is hopping mad and cursing up a storm when

Everyone calls out assault, but the assault (apprehension of imminent harm) already occurred. The shove (and the spit, had it hit him instead of just drooled from her mouth) was battery (inflicting that harm).

She grabs her bag and begins to walk away, but not before scolding the man taking the video below…asking why he would “act like a white person when you just a n*gger!” After walking away in a huff, the camera is turned and we see the man who shot the video saying, “I’m a black person, not a n*gger, just letting you know!”

It appears she walked away without waiting for the police or suffering any consequences for spitting toward and shoving the man.

Why do I share this? First, to applaud the other passengers for staying calm. Like the incident on Scoot I wrote about yesterday, the situation could have turned violent very quickly had one or more of the other passengers fought back more aggressively.

Second, because this sort of anti-social behavior should not be ignored. I hope that someone at American Airlines will look into this, to the extent possible noting that we don’t even know when the incident took place, and ban this passenger from future travel. No one should have to endure being spit on.

But do learn from this incident: whip out the camera, yes, but don’t fight back against folks like this…it just isn’t worthwhile.

I stick with my strategy of muting myself when I enter an airport and only unmute when I leave the airport at my destination. It is a great exercise to rest your vocal cords and a way to not engage in any conversations with strangers. I rarely go to a baggage carousel since I try to travel only with a carry on but when I do go to a carousel I stay away and just make a move when I spot my bags. People love to claim territory in front of the carousel and block people that are trying to get their bags. It is a zoo that I avoid at all cost. Last, I don’t understand why people have to film everything around them. It is not their business to record other people. I use my phone to record videos of my family and nothing else. Mind your own business.

There once were laws against swearing and spitting in public. Are they still on the books? This is a good reason to find out. Apparently airports could use morality police.

Except baggage halls have large signs saying NO filming or photography. Time the entitled took this on board.
