I took Heidi on a date to the Banksy: Genius or Vandal? exhibition in Culver City, California, not too far from Los Angeles International Airport. We both loved it and I highly recommend it if you are in the LA area.
Banksy Expo in Los Angeles Is Worth Your While
Banksy is a pseudonymous England-based street artist, political activist, and film director whose real name and identity remain unconfirmed. I first really appreciated his art when we visited the Walled Off Hotel in Bethlehem just before the pandemic began. You can read more about him here.
A Banksy exhibit has been continually extended in Los Angeles for the last year and a half and offers a remarkable look at the artist and his work. The expo is set to end on July 31, 2022, so unless it is extended again, you only have about a week left to check it out.
Tickets are $39.00 each for adults and $26.30 for children. You can buy tickets here.
I don’t condone vandalism and don’t sign on to the revolutionary anti-capitalist message that Banksy seems to espouse (key words seems…the man is such an enigma). Still, his provocative artwork invites us to think and I greatly appreciate many of his works.
Please enjoy this photo essay from the expo:
Have you been the Banksy Expo? How did you like it?

Don’t let anyone lie to you, he’s a capitalist like all of us. He loves money and the rest is just an angle.
Genius AND vandal, for sure. I like his art and statements, though.
I SEE what you did here.
Saw a very similar banksy exhibition in Chicago with my wife a couple of years ago. We’re big fans of his work. No real opinion on his morals. I did enjoy a tour of his work in Bethlehem. Trying to convince my wife to take the family to jordan next month. She doesn’t like the heat. I don’t know if it’s worse than Italy right now.
Btw there’s a great YouTube video of banksy selling his pictures anonymously next to centra park. Worth a view
The guy is exceptionally talented. Knows how to twist the knife . Don’t always agree with him but can acknowledge the brilliance of his work. People will rip him because they can’t handle criticism.
@Dave Edwards 100% He has taken full advantage of capitalism in a free society and reaped unimaginable wealth because of it. For this reason, he’s able to create this art, thrive, and not be persecuted. But yeah, he’s super edgy.
He is also white, or he would have already been shot dead by the cops.
Banksy is like trump, a populist. He knows what the losers want to hear and he gives it to them. The best trick both of them pulled is convincing the respective losers that worship them that they “we are in this together” .
You think he’s a Rush Limbaugh, Archie Bunker type, telling people what they want to hear and then laughing behind their backs?
What a loser. Angry, depressed and clearly hates a lot of people.
Lol Not quite.
I went to see a Banksy exhibit once with a friend. On the way to the exhibit, I told her I needed to give her a “Banksy Spanksy” and started spanking her. She did not appreciate that.
He’s without a doubt creative. Some of those pieces were quite moving, but it’s challenging to be an anti-capitalist while charging wealthy Angelinos $39 a pop to come look at your pictures. Good for Banksy, though. I certainly respect the hustle.
It’s a fair point – I thought it was a bit pricey. I think that’s part of the delicious irony of all this.
I also paid for the VR experience, which was pretty cool…made me dizzy, though.
