In addition to all my lounge hopping, I visited the Be Relax spa during my long layover in Detroit (DTW). The spa is part of Priority Pass and I had a tremendous 10-minute massage that was very helpful prior to my flight.
Be Relax Spa Detroit (DTW) – Priority Pass
The spa is located in the McNamara Terminal, between Gates A43 and A45 (Detroit Wayne airport has other locations, but this is the one I visited). It is open daily from 7:00am to 9:00pm.
Your Priority Pass membership includes:
- 30 minute Lounger Massage – Be Back (a US$35 value)
- 15 minute Lounger Massage plus Aromatherapy & O2 – Be Back (a US$35 value)
- 10 minute Head Massage plus Aromatherapy & O2 – Head Up (a US$38 value)
- 10 minute Foot Massage plus Aromatherapy & O2 – Be Feet (a US$38 value)
Note that this benefit is not included if your Priority Pass is issued by American Express (Chase, Citi, and Capital One are not an issue). Also note that you are not entitled to bring a guest along under Priority Pass.
When I showed up, all the employees were busy, but I was invited to relax in a massage chair while I waited my turn (it took about 20 minutes). I was not charged for this.
I chose the 10-minute head massage, thinking it would be a scalp massage, but it was a neck and shoulder massage and it was amazing. By that I mean the technician was very skilled, targeted the knots in my shoulders, and promptly went to work.
It was a somewhat excruciating 10 minutes, but I felt so much better afterwards. 10 minutes is hardly enough time to fix lingering back issues, but even to knead out a couple knots was helpful.
I gave my masseuse a generous tip – I really appreciated her skill. Do remember to tip, as this is not included in your Priority Pass benefit and (for better or for worse) this isn’t Japan or another anti-tipping culture, but the USA.
Should you wish to stay longer, a full spa menu is available, including:
- manicures
- pedicures
- facials
- waxing
- table massages
There’s also a shower in the lounge, which you can use for 15 minutes ($25) or 30 minutes ($35).
CONCLUSION
If I had only had 30 minutes at DTW, I’d go hear every time over a Sky Club. My massage was intense, but exactly what my back needed.
I used to see the oxygen treatments here all the time when I’d pass thru during grad school. I always swore when I finished and was making $$$ I’d come back and waste – I mean spend some of it on breathing some of that pricey O2.
Twenty years later and I never have.
Haven’t either, but one time, I’ll be passing by such a place during the peak season of the pollen I’m allergic to, or I’ll be painfully hungover from whatever liminal ceremony preceded my departure, and I’ll spot some pure 02, and it will be good.
Can you do a review of one in Cleveland? The Browns new QB would certainly be interested.
Did they tell you the other one by a18 does allow guests? It’s so odd that one does and one doesn’t.

It was a nice article but please, please, please understand that the term masseuse is derogatory. Michigan is a State with Licensed Massage Therapists. Individuals that are Licensed Health Professionals.
