We stopped for coffee at Tashas in the fancy Village View Shopping Centre in the affluent Gauteng suburb of Bedfordview.
Great Coffee In Bedfordview, South Africa
We stopped at the Village View Shopping Centre for coffee. Nearby, the Eastgate Shopping Centre was once the largest shopping centers in the Southern Hemisphere (and it remains one of the largest). Here, the well-off go to enjoy shopping and dining. Walking through the mall you can tell by the cars and the clothing that this is a fancy enclave of the greater Johannesburg area.
I was pleased to see a branch of Tashas here, which was a café I quite enjoyed in Rosebank. We sat down and I enjoyed a double-shot flat white as well as a green drink filled with a mix of vegetables and fruit that was probably too bland for most people, but perfect for me.
This place was hopping! Despite that, we enjoyed excellent service and very good coffee.
We also did some shopping at Woolworths–Heidi loves chocolate and I brought her home several dark chocolate bars produced in South Africa.
CONCLUSION
As I’ll explore in the next segment of this trip report, the most interesting to me was the juxtaposition between this posh area and crossing over a bridge toward Primrose and encountering the Makause squatter camp. It was like day and night. But I look forward to returning to Bedfordview next time I’m in South Africa.
When back at Village View try our Fireroom Restaurant just few meters away from tashas
Thanks for the tip!
Interesting. I thought Woolworth’s had all gone under. Nice to see that my assumption was wrong.
Woolworths in South Africa has no relation whatsoever to the eponymous US company that is now defunct (but it does have tangential legacy links to the Australian company that also shares the same name). The US company actually litigated the issue many years ago but an apartheid era South African court upheld the local entity’s rights to the name.
Not only Tasha… You should try Bembom an upmarket and a great and friendly place at Bedfordview Village Walk …..
