The point of my series of coffee posts is always to go back and add to them as I find more great cafés in any given city. During my recent trip to Istanbul, I found another great coffee shop that I am adding to the list below.
Best Coffee In Istanbul
I found a new café called Old Java which is now my favorite coffee shop in Istanbul. It’s located in Beyoglu near the Galata Tower.
Old Java Coffee Roasters Galata
Müeyyedzade, Tatar Beyi Sk. No:8

8:00 am – 7:00 pm (Monday – Saturday)
8:00 am – 6:00 pm (Sunday)
Old Java is located on a nice street on the ground floor of an old building.
Inside, caned chairs and plants create an inviting atmosphere…and of course, so does the house cat, who slept soundly next to me for the entire time.
Most importantly, the coffee is excellent…I had a great cortado.
I did not try any of the sweets, but they looked good too:
I’ll also note that Espresso Lab continues to offer great coffee for a chain café. We stopped at the Ataturk Cultural Center location and I enjoyed a very nice cortado here too.
I found one more I want to try next time called Nørre (located nearby Old Java).
My original post, from 2019, is below. Both of these coffee shops remain open.
I was in Istanbul recently and as I always do now, sought out great coffee. I found two great places that I want to share with you.
#1: Espresso Lab

Located on the İstiklal Caddesi in at three different locations, including one in Taksim Square, this is a great alternative to other coffee chains. The staff was friendly, wi-fi fast, and most importantly, the coffee (cappuccino) excellent. I was staying at the Grand Hyatt near Taksim Square and that location was so crowded I kept walking to the next one. It too was quite crowded; in fact, I took the last open table in the café. If you’re ever in need of late-night coffee, this place is open till 12:30AM.
#2: Coffee Sapiens
Kemankeş Karamustafa Paşa
Kılıç Ali Paşa Mescidi Sk. 10/C
34425 Beyoğlu, İstanbul

Ok, this was one of the best cappuccinos I have ever had. The whole experience was lovely. Coffee Sapiens is located on a beautiful little street of cafés shaded by grape vines. My cappuccino came with a tasty shortbread cookie and rose-scented water. The coffee was strong and the texture perfect. Like so much of Istanbul, cats wandered the street and one nestled up at my feet.
On my walk back, I stumbled upon one other coffee shop called Berkeketzadeli. Having already consumed four shots of espresso in my two cappuccinos, I decided to hold it for next time.
CONCLUSION
The coffee scene in Istanbul is great. I loved my two cups of coffee (the coffee at the Grand Hyatt was deplorable) and cannot wait to return.
Do you have any favorite coffee shops in Istanbul?
Coffee looks good, but you really missed out on the traditional Turkish coffee and tea. I myself like to stick to local products when I travel – makes the travel experience more genuine. “When in Rome” as they say….
I had both. This afternoon was a cappuccino day.
Was gonna ask the same thing….
@Andy … A waiter at Nile Hilton yelled at me because I said I did Not want “Egyptian coffee” .
The only rational country in the middle east is Israel .
You had it coming.
@Chi Hsuan … +1 .
Nah, not really.
But hey, nothing beats anecdotal evidence to prove whatever asinine point you are trying to make…
@Aaron … Churchill would have agreed with me . He was with the British at Khartoum .
Churchill was a bit on the racist side, so…
Lovely! Visiting in two weeks and I’ll make sure I hit up #2 and 3. ☺️☺️☺️
Try cold brew at Kronotrop in Taksim area. I always go there when I come to the city.
The coffeeshop is quite small so I always pick my coffee to go.
“ The coffee at the Grand Hyatt was deplorable “….perhaps so relative to the boutique cafes outside, but it’s ok for hotel coffee ( the machine in the lounge is decent enough).
It’s a very nice hotel to spend a few days…
I am living in Tünel, Beyoğlu, and it would be great to see you and have a short chat… Espresso Lab is also one of our favourites as locals. For a dark roast Turkish coffee, you may try Mandabatmaz next time.
Love reading all the coffee advice from you and commenters! No matter where, love to try local coffee shops every morning. Keep it up!
I’m surprised you didn’t try the coffee at the new coffee bar at the Park Hyatt.
I did. Wasn’t my favorite (esp the gold flakes), but I’ll do a review when I review the hotel.
Yeah I tried that too. LOL
But I do have to say the gym is probably the nicest gym I have ever seen in any hotel.
Agreed!
Just booked (what should be) the ex-Aeroflot Turkish plane to Denver! Very excited to have my like 70% chance of flying it ‘cause TK swaps
(TK is the new TG, imo)
It’s ingenious how much flavor cafés in Turkiye extract from the same Brazilian beans used in other countries.
I love these posts about the discoveries in each city ,,,, add wonderful places to try when planning travel etc especially when you dont have time to wander and discover them on your own
