The Biden Administration will not move forward with President Donald Trump’s plans to paint the next generation presidential aircraft, called Air Force One when the President is onboard, with a new red, white, and blue livery.
New Air Force One Will Not Have Trump Paint Scheme
Politico reports that President Joe Biden has decided not to proceed with Trump’s new paint job on Air Force One after a recent study showed that it would add to project costs and could lead to overheating. The Air Force confirmed that the darker paint scheme would have required additional modifications to cool aircraft components, which also may have further driven up costs.
An administration official confirmed:
“The Trump paint scheme is not being considered because it could drive additional engineering, time and cost.”
With the Trump paint scheme eliminated, does that mean the next-generation Air Force One, set to debut in 2026 on a modified Boeing 747-8, will look like the current one?
The Biden Administration has not confirmed that. Describing the old livery, Trump had said, “The baby blue doesn’t fit with us.” Thus far, the Biden Administration has provided no further details about the paint scheme of choice.
While Boeing agreed to a fixed cost for the program as negotiated by Trump, supply chain problems and subcontractor issues have delayed the program by two years according to the Government Accountability Office.
CONCLUSION
The Biden Administration has rejected Trump’s plans for a new red, white, and blue livery on Air Force One. While it is not clear if the new Air Force one will maintain the existing livery, that is the most likely outcome at this point. Perhaps this will make it easier for the ex-President to paint his own Boeing 757 jet in the livery of his choice.

No comment from Joe on how much Boeing lost and taxpayers saved from the deal Trump made? Boeing reported it was a big contributor to their poor financial results recently.
https://www.cnbc.com/2022/04/27/boeing-lost-billion-dollars-on-trump-air-force-one-plane-deal.html
Good for Trump. I mentioned he negotiated the deal.
Not good for Trump. Boeing was pressured into this bad deal by Trump, who wanted to show what a tough guy he was, because they legitimately feared if they didn’t go along, Trump would punish their defense business. In a normal democracy, they wouldn’t have had to worry about such a thing. But in an autocracy, you better not piss off the strong man. We saw plenty of other similar instances during the Trump administration.
I agree.
I like to think that when Trump was in office many programs, State and local would be achieved. That was not the case. We the tax payers, paying for his golf trips overseas, and many other excursions on Airforce One. Enough. The World was in an pandemic.
All that was achieved was bullying other nations for his own self gratification. Engineers know best.
Leave the color.
I’m not a fan of Biden the do nothing President, I didn’t vote for Biden but the truth is Trumps paint scheme was hideous.
I hope as an American they just keep the current paint scheme because it is classy and timeless and it represents the United States of American and not one single person in particular.
Boeing is losing money on the contract (maybe – depends on whether aftermarket revenue is being taken into consideration by their accountants), because it signed a firm fixed price contract and its costs are higher than expected. That is the risk when you sign an FFP. Boeing should have insisted on bifurcating the development and production contracts, using a cost plus with an NTE for the development and an FFP for the production.
I promise you that President Trump had little to do with the actual negotiation and had – and still has – at best a rudimentary understanding of defense contracting.
LOL….like Trump is such a great ‘deal maker’!! Only to idiots who actually believe the man can read. His trail of failures goes on forever…. Just look at the tax returns that he released to the public.
Everything with that man is a scam to idiots…Trump University (that’s my favorite), Trump Foundation, Trump Hotel in DC….and people like you keep going back for more. And for what?? A moron like Trump!!! Of all the people in the world to idolize you pick Trump!!! What a bunch of $%ckin morons….Only in America….only in America.
Agreed!!!
That’s too bad. Trump personally drew up the greatest, most tremendous paint scheme anyone has ever seen. Frankly, they should of kept it. I don’t see how any world leader is going to respect Sleepy Joe flying around in the tired, and frankly outdated, baby-blue-Hillary-Clinton-pantsuit color. So much losing. Reagan would have never let this happen.
In fairness – and leaving aside all the baggage associated with it – it really wasn’t a bad color scheme.
It’s pretty easy to know exactly what livery Reagan would have used because the plane he flew in still exists and is on display in the Reagan Library. It doesn’t really look like the Trump livery.
Overheating? Seriously? So all US Airways planes had that problem? Just say you don’t like the color. Much easier.
Not an apples-to-apples comparison. There are systems on AF1 that are not found on a commercial airliner.
Or Air New Zealand’s black planes…and if there are systems on AF1 that have special requirements then they probably already need/have additional a/c to account for it. I agree they just didn’t want anything that reminds people of Trump and it is easier to blame the science.
Everything in this Administration is based on science.
I wonder if one of the special features is that the airplane needs to fly upside down…it’s mostly white with some dark on the bottom. What a joke. Did they need special white paint??
First off, Sleepy Joe Biden had nothing to do with this, he has no idea what is going on, it is just his woke administration officials deciding all of this. But even if it was Sleepy Joe deciding this, it doesn’t matter, because he won’t be President in 2026! Trump will be.
Whether you like it or not, even Democrats know there is no chance Biden gets re-elected with all the bad things that have happened under his watch, and no Republican can challenge Trump, so that is what it will be.
Yea people are dieing to bring back the guy that tried to steal the election. At this point with what we know about 1/6, anyone that still supports Trump should probably be put on a watch list as a potential seditionist.
I think Ron DeSantis will be President, I think if he runs he easily beats Trump in the primary (assuming Trump would run against DeSantis) and then in the general election DeSantis beats Biden. But you are right there is no way Biden wins reelection and if Democrats were smart they would be lining up several candidates to run against him. Biden is such a do nothing President even his base some hard core democrats have turned against him. If you can’t carry your base there is no way he wins reelection in 2024.
Is he a do nothing president that is essentially comatose with no awareness of where he is, or is he actively destroying America as we know it with his radical agenda? I can’t keep up with you crazies.
The real answer to what is going to happen is that the Republicans will take back congress this year and remind the short memory swing voters just how atrocious Republicans are when they run anything. Then the democrats will retain the white house. That said hopefully it’s Gavin Newsom in 24. He will energize the dem voters and make Republicans heads explode.
Hey Donald jr, how are Gavin’s sloppy seconds?
“it is just his woke administration officials deciding all of this.”
Nothing screams “woke” like… keeping the traditional paint job?
I truly can’t tell whether you’re a bitter human or a poorly programmed bot. In any event, best of luck.
Joe didn’t make this decision, he barely knows what day of the week it is.
One fervently hopes he will never fly on this plane as President.
Let’s see you make the public rounds and have to speak on all the issues of the day that he does and do so for even a week. Then we can evaluate who is more competent. My bet is on Biden.
Politics aside wasn’t keen on changing the paint scheme that was consistent for the ‘jet age’ of Air Force 1
I read that it’s a possible overheating problem with darker colors (https://www.businessinsider.com/trump-air-force-one-paint-job-could-overheat-plane-report-2022-6)
And you believe that?
LOL there are more “dark” colors on top of the current design since the top of the new design is all white.
Why does every a**hole who reads this blog have a political axe to grind?
We’ll see if it comes back after the old fart gets thrown out of office in 2024
He’s schedule to be POTUS until and into 2025.
Rainbow colors. You heard it here first.
@Billybob. While you talk about stealimg elections. 2000 mules.
I had to Google what that is. I’m guessing you think pro wrestling is real too
You mean the idiot who wanted to put gold fixtures on a shuttle service fleet didn’t think through the problems associated with his decisions?
Shocked, I tell ya. Shocked.
Save all the bickering, go euro white with a (yawn) LH/QF/IB style tail. No overheating, all boring, so people can stop getting all stressed out
I mean, look where all our TAX DOLLARS go, Billions of dollars in donations to other (war torn) countries, etc…and Air Force One; One is enough!
I prefer the traditional look. Thank the Biden Administration for sticking to the good traditional look.
Wow, the Biden administration mad an actual decision. You go Joe!
If color makes so much a difference in cooling components, the baby blue should be retired in favor of something similar to Air France’s white livery.
The current USAF 747 livery is not sacred. Other planes have a different livery. Look at the USAF 757, sometimes called Air Force Two. It’s livery is NOT the same as the 747. The current USAF 747 livery is very clumsy looking, especially the upswing of blue to the hump. That is so wrong. The upswing should be lower, like just below the cockpit windows.
This is probably the last thing the government should spend money on. If it saves even $200 to not repaint AF1, then scrap the plan. “we’re going to paint it red white and blue! rah rah rah!” The idea is a great example of the idiocracy our nation has become.
The color of plane liveries is a huge factor for two reasons: the weight of the paint, and how much light (and thus heat) the paint absorbs, which is all about how dark the paint is. The old AA color scheme was mostly unpainted metal, with only some paint on it. Painting a whole plane adds weight. But it depends on the colors used, and over the years they’ve developed less heavy pigments.
And then, there is the fact that darker colors absorb light, which causes more overheating when the plane is in hot climates. Most airlines tend to paint their planes with a lot of white or other light colors for this reason.
AF1 is unlike any other plane on the planet! It has anti-missile systems. That tells you everything you need to know. I’m assuming that this is probably the least fancy thing about AF1, and we will never know half of the things it was designed to be able to do in a national emergency.
So yes, overheating is probably a big concern, for reasons we can’t even know. What we do know is that operating this plane is prohibitively expensive — so even a 2% reduction in fuel efficciency would quickly add up to hundreds of millions of dollars. No thanks!
All politics aside, I prefer the current design over Trump’s and am glad Biden is keeping it.
Politics aside, I thought the “new” design sucked!
