What do you do on a Singapore Airlines A380 in Suites Class? Sleep? Eat? How about binge-watching season one of White Lotus?
Binge-Watching White Lotus On Singapore Airlines
I’ve heard Ben from One Mile At A Time talk about a White Lotus and it has also come up in some discussions in our social circles, but I don’t pay for streaming services of any kind and we do not have a TV in our house. Thus, I may have borrowed my brother’s Netflix login to watch House of Cards or The Crown, but I don’t make a habit of doing so and find my days are busy enough without the distraction (which is admittedly sometimes a welcome distraction) of more screen time.
During a decadent lunch on my 12-hour Singapore Airlines flight from Frankfurt to Singapore, I decided to watch episode one of season one of White Lotus, in which a motley crew of entitled folks head to a Hawaiian resort and unleash their worst, most privileged impulses.
After lunch, I settled back to relax, planning to go to sleep. Well, maybe just one more episode.
#Hooked
I could not stop watching. The series is a satire and takes place over a week in Hawaii at the Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea (renamed the White Lotus). I found the acting top-notch, the plot and subplots hilarious, and at the same time, director Mike White really invites you to think about many facets of life.
This is truly a black comedy that I found worth my time. Each episode is more twisted than the last.
Unfortunately, by the time I stopped…we were only a couple hours from Singapore.
Yes, I spent my flight in Singapore Suites watching a screen. On the other hand, it was from the comfort of a plush bed in my pajamas with my feet propped up and you could say that I fully enjoyed the trip rather than just slept through it…
CONCLUSION
I spent my time in first class on Singapore Airlines binge-watching White Lotus season one.
Yes, I have now watched season two as well (and preferred it) and look forward to season three, which will be filmed in Thailand.
I may have arrived in Singapore tired, but it was a fun way to pass time during the flight.
I happened to attend a private luau in Maui where the Wailea crowd included a Four Seasons executive. Her stories about events occurring at the resort over the years were worthy of a series on HBO. White Lotus seems tame in comparison.
Season 2….somehow even better
Mike White is great. Wrote the movie School of Rock. Also made the HBO show Enlightened with Laura Dern, which is excellent
My family is a fan of both seasons.
I got hooked inflight as well and likewise couldn’t stop! I watched both seasons twice but I think season 2 edges out season 1. I’m even more ‘invested’ in the characters, no matter how horrible they are. That’s the genius of it, I find.
I need Tanya to be resurrected.
I wonder how many miles Greg had if he could fly from Sicily to Denver and back on 48 Hours Notice
Lol. I think he just used Tanya’s Centurion card! 😉
Season 2 >>>>> Season 1
Honestly, the suspense was built brilliantly. What an epic season.
Season 1 was OK. Season 2 was really good. Problem is now all stupid Instagramers are flocking into beautiful Taormina, Italy just to take a picture in front of the hotel. The place was peaceful and now is a total zoo.
Is it that popular? Frankly, the hotel looked fine but not overly exquisite. I hope the FS doesn’t have those nasty heads/masks in the room!
I have been there before it became a Four seasons. The views are unbelievable. The hotel was a former Dominican monastery, dating back to the year 1430 and transformed in a hotel in 1896 so you can imagine the history. Taormina is absolutely gorgeous with amazing restaurants and shops so it is not about the hotel but everything about the place.
Sounds like a perfect use of time to me! Can’t wait for season 3. “These gays…they’re trying to murder me!”
Man this blog is failing. Such a boring irrelevant post. Everyone watched this and did so year ago. Yikes! Maybe time to get a job at target and be useful.
Lol. You have way too much time on your hands, girl. Thanks for the click.
Lol, I binged RuPaul’s Drag Race. Alyssa Edwards can now claim to have been in an A380 suite!
On a couple Singapore Airlines flights earlier this year I was quite surprised at how many passengers in all classes of service (but not Suites as the aircraft I was on didn’t have them) were watching a single show: The White Lotus. The hotel I was visiting had some similar White Lotus characters:
