BREAKING: Boeing’s Jeppesen Subsidiary Hit With Potential Ransomware Attack

As a Boeing-owned Jeppesen outage enters a second day, Live and Let’s Fly has learned that the aviation and navigation services company may be suffering from a ransomware attack.

Jeppesen – Boeing Ransomware Attack 2022

Jeppesen, a wholly owned Boeing subsidiary, is the leading aviation navigation services provider in the world, providing navigation databases for aircraft,  flight planning applications for Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) (think flight deck iPads), NOTAM (Notice to Air Missions) processing service, and more.

Yesterday, many Jeppesen services went down the following banner was added to the website:

We are currently experiencing technical issues with some of our products, services and communication channels. We are working to restore functionality as soon as possible.

If you need support at this time, please reach out to us at support.jeppesen.com. Phone support is not available at this time.

This disruption is also impacting the receipt and processing of new NOTAMs and distribution of current NOTAMs. Flight Operators are reminded that the NOTAMs Offices (NoF) / Air Services Navigation Providers (ANSP) for the countries of departure, overflight, and arrival are alternative sources of NOTAMs.

That outage continues today.

This “technical issue” is ransomware according to a source who could not go on the record due to the sensitive nature of the issue. Iraqi Airways and Saudi budget carrier Flynas have also publicly posted about this outage. Expect an announcement from Boeing concerning this attack.

In 2018, Boeing was hit by the WannaCry virus. That ransomware attack triggered widespread alarm inside the company and with airline customers, but ultimately damage was limited. This attack appeared limited to Jeppesen and not the entire Boeing company.

This story will be updated.

The FBI can’t be bothered with such things.

The BBC did an article a few days ago about the biggest threat is to small businesses. More than half go out of business after an attack. Live and Let’s Fly should be very careful. At work, we are able to have separate computer systems that are completely isolated. No internet or other connectivity. Some data has to be manually entered. It is a bit cumbersome.

LOL. So I originally had Notice to Airmen in there and I was corrected by someone else (who said that Airmen is the old designation…).

Notices to Airmen (NOTAM) have a new name: Notices to Air Mission. Effective Dec. 2, 2021, the new name is a “more applicable term” that is “inclusive of all aviators and missions.” The name change has already been made to many FAA documents, according to agency officials.

Time to hunt down these scumbag hackers, they are a clear and present danger to society. Long jail sentences, restitution to victims, and the death penalty if there actions cause a victim or victim’s death.
