I stopped by the British Airways Lounge during my long layover in Singapore Changi (SIN) and it really has not changed in years…and on balance, that is a good thing.
British Airways Lounge Singapore (SIN) Review
Arriving at around 7:00 pm, the lounge was much more crowded than my previous visit at 3:00 pm. There were still areas that were fairly empty, but also a good number of people in the lounge ahead of the 8:00 pm British Airways flight to Sydney (SYD).
I visited this lounge after large meal in the nearby Qantas First Lounge, so it was not to eat…just to see how it has changed.
Food choices included a beef pot roast with cooked vegetables and mashed potatoes, selection of Indian food, egg rolls, the sorriest looking chicken satay I’ve ever seen, a salad bar, croissant sandwiches, fresh fruit, cheese and crackers, and sweets like brownies and fruit tarts.
Drink selections were self-serve and included beer, wine, spirits, water, juice, tea, and coffee.
The Bar Singapore – British Airways Lounge Within A Lounge
Near the entrance I noticed a numeric keypad separating an area of the lounge exclusively for first class guests on British Airways. Even my oneworld emerald status did not give me access to this…
Restrooms and showers are available, but were crowded so I have no fresh pictures. The pictures below should still give you an idea of what to except.
CONCLUSION
Singapore Changi is home a Qantas, Qatar, Cathay Pacific, and British Airways lounge so if you are flying on a oneworld carrier you have quite a nice number of options.
The British Airways Lounge, to be quite honest, is probably my least favorite of the oneworld lounges at SIN. But that doesn’t mean it is bad one. On the contrary, it is quite a respectable lounge by BA standards.
My original review, published on May 19, 2018, is below.
The British Airways lounge in Singapore Changhi (SIN) feels more fitting for its Heathrow hub than an Asian outstation. It is spacious and has excellent amenities, making it worth a visit.
I had access to the lounge on the basis of my Malaysia Airlines business class ticket. It is located in Terminal 1 and I was departing from Terminal 2, but that just meant a quick train from one terminal to the other.
The lounge had just opened at 3pm when I arrived and was empty. The reception area contains dark blue mood lighting.
British Airways Lounge Singapore Seating
Past reception is seating with a mix of chairs, couches, and fabric types. Magazines and newspapers are available and electrical outlets are located throughout the lounge.
A TV viewing area features the most comfortable seats in the lounge:
British Airways Lounge Singapore Food & Beverage
The dining area is divided into two buffets and a restaurant-style seating area with booths. One area has drinks (including self-serve liquor) while the other side has food. Since the lounge had just opened, no hot food had been placed yet.
British Airways Lounge Singapore Restrooms and Showers
Just to the left of reception is the bathroom and shower area. Restrooms are neat and clean and the private shower stalls are so much better than the cruise ship-style showers at London Heathrow.
CONCLUSION
BA flies from Singapore to Sydney and London. It’s understandable why it would invest in its lounge product. That said, the lounge exceeded my expectations and that was even before the food was put out.
When I was there in 2016 they also had an unmarked door behind which was a smallish lounge offering even better alcohol and quieter seating. It was restricted to BA First passengers (ie no Emeralds traveling on other OneWorld airlines).
Too bad I missed that!
Wow, that is a nice lounge! I am surprised that it is that nice. Much nicer than the one in SFO.
Is United catering the BA lounge? That food…..
Quite honestly, it doesn’t look too bad to me beyond the very questionable chicken satay…
You are in Singapore and you offer beef pot roast with cooked vegetables and mashed potatoes? That has to be one of the cheapest entrees you can have. Low quality beef with cheap vegetables. Brownie as dessert? In Asia?
Western airlines do offer westen food options at outstation lounges. Probably a good thing considering the looks of that Satay.
Yeah it seems like they offered both Western and Asian options, so not sure what the whining is about.
I was at this lounge in March 2023 and the chicken satay was phenomenal (especially the sauce). It was one of my highlights from the lounge!
