Booking My Christmas Trip To Europe With Avianca LifeMiles

Avianca LifeMiles is currently running a great promotion on purchased miles, allowing me to lock in space for my Christmas trip to Europe at a superb price…no coach this time!

My Christmas Trip To Europe In Business Class Using Avianca LifeMiles

Through October 15, 2021 LifeMiles is running a 140% bonus on purchased miles. That works out to 1.375 cents each for the points and there is no minimum number of miles to buy (you can buy a maximum of 200,000 in increments of 1,000).

My object was four tickets to Zurich in business class. LifeMiles charges 63,000 miles per ticket. While my one-year-old daughter is still young enough to be a lap infant, she is very territorial and prefers her own seat:

We live in Los Angeles and wanted to fly nonstop. Using Avianca’s award calendar, I was able to find space on SWISS–

63,000 miles for a one-way ticket that costs $3,800 bucks is my kind of deal. Practically speaking, I wouldn’t pay more than $1,500 for such a ticket, but 63,000 miles at 1.38 cents came to about $869/ticket. That’s simply an incredible buy for business class to Europe considering coach tickets hover at that price.

My philosophy on miles is points is only buy what you intend to burn on a short-term horizon. But with booking up to 330 days in advance possible, now is a great time to think about next year’s travel.

You can also combine this purchased miles promotion with transferable currency from American Express, Capitol One, or Citi.

LifeMiles is odd in the sense that sometimes partner space shows that is not available on other airlines that is bookable. Other times, space will show on other partner airlines but not be be bookable with LifeMiles. To avoid disappointment, I recommend you check the space online before you buy points. Agents will not be able to see space you cannot see online and custom routings are generally not permitted.

Other award chart sweet spots include:

  • US to Europe in first class – 87,000 miles
  • US to Southeast Asia in business class – 78,000 miles
  • US to North Asia in first class – 90,000 miles

Lufthansa First Class for 87K miles and no fuel surcharge is a pretty sweet deal, as is flying to Singapore or Bangkok via Tokyo or Taipei for 78,000 miles in business class.

While purchasing miles though this link will support Live and Let’s Fly, in the interest of transparency, LifeMiles is offering a slightly cheaper price when you purchase the miles through One Mile At A Time. But at Live and Let’s Fly, we always keep your interests in mind, even if it is at our expense…

CONCLUSION

Now is a great time to buy LifeMiles for intercontinental travel (especially now that U.S. borders will re-open in November and there will be more competition for award seats) and I’m happy for the peace of mind of having my holiday trip locked in. I recommend buying points and burning them immediately, but this is a truly great deal that makes premium cabin aspirational family travel available without breaking the budget.
