Coffee Pot: My Visit To Bill Maher And Woody Harrelson’s WeHo Cannabis Café

I stumbled upon a coffee shop in West Hollywood yesterday called Cafe Woods owned by Bill Maher and Woody Harrelson…how would the coffee measure up?

Coffee At Cafe Woods in WeHo – Coffee, Not Cannabis, Please!

Regular readers know I am a big fan of Bill Maher…I think his “old school” liberalism often strikes the right balance and while I appreciated Larry David’s response to his White House dinner with Donald Trump, I like that he is willing to sit down and talk with anyone and that he is truly for free speech…not just when it suits his worldview.

Maher opened a pot shop in West Hollywood with Woody + Laura Harrelson and John McEnroe in 2022. I was aware of it, but not really thinking about it when I stopped for coffee yesterday after my haircut.

The closest coffee shop was a place called “Cafe Woods” and it looked good to me: La Marzocco machine and cortado on the menu.

But it dawned on me when I stepped inside…oh, this is Bill Maher’s place. Indeed, the pot shop and lounge was connected and there was this picture on the wall:

I didn’t know Maher had a coffee shop too…and a real coffee shop, not what the Dutch call coffee shops…

Apparently, this place was the Holy Water Bar and was taken over by The Woods earlier this year. It’s a nicely decorated café.

Folks, I’ve never smoked pot in my life and I have no interest in ever smoking pot or consuming any type of recreational drug. Furthermore, I hate the smell of pot…so I stayed inside the café rather than taking my coffee out to the lounge where smoking is permitted.

But the cortado was good. I’m not a huge fan of La Colombe coffee, but this was a respectable blend and the La Marzocco machine can bring out the best in most coffees.

So yes, coffee in West Hollywood at the pot shop. How cliché LA.

Tobacco smoking rates have sharply declined, therefore so have the revenues from the absurdly high tobacco tax in CA. So the state is trying hard to get people hooked on a new fix! Cannabis tax in CA is close to 20%. So remember kids, you can only buy your weed from a dealer who pays a cut to Sacramento!

Where they are making up for it is with vapes. My Juul pods for a four pack are around $20 in most places around the country. In California they are around $35.00. Trust me, as old school cigarette sales plummet, vaping is far more a tax revenue boost for California than weed is.

Pot-headism is a deviant negation of clear thoughtfulness , and contributes to further self-destruction of potential .

Possibly pot-headism leads to depravity or worse .

There are reasons why level-headed people avoid it , and dems flock to it’s dark dens .

@ Alert — This has to be one of the dumbest comments I have ever read. You were good until you somehow associated drug use with political party. Look no further than DJT, Jr. for a drug addict.

I drive by this place frequently and work out in the neighborhood. I had assumed that this really was a “Dutch style” coffee shop and for that reason had avoided this place… now I know to stop by.

It’s pretty ineffective when it’s misspelled.

Au contraire, mon ami… the sentiment is absolutely the same with/without spelling or grammatical errors… I do hope we all are not that sensitive ! …But I still appreciate you’re pointing it out none the less !

@ Gene , I would have liked to explain via reply but this racist xenophobic, homophobic troll you called out is paid by response and I prefer to let it starve. It disappeared from ommat. for racism &. VFTW after referring to Jose Andres as a greasy Mexican and I believe may now use the handle as Walter over there. Now it’s back to posting ugly political comments here to gain a response. Let it starve as sickening as it is.
