Cathay Pacific has several excellent lounges at its Hong Kong hub. This review focuses on The Deck Lounge, which offers a tranquil space with excellent food and beverage options.
Cathay Pacific The Deck Lounge Review (HKG)
I arrived several hours before my Cathay Pacific flight to Amsterdam to sample every Cathay Pacific Business Class lounge. After leaving The Wing, my second stop was The Deck.
Hours + Access + Location
Access is generally reserved for oneworld sapphire and emerald status holders or business class passengers traveling on a oneworld carrier. You are permitted one guest if entering via status or no guests if entering via ticket class of service. Cathay Pacific Silver Status holders flying on a Cathay-marketed and operated flight also have access.
However, note that while The Wing First Class Lounge undergoes construction, The Deck is restricted to first class and oneworld emerald passengers only.
The Deck is open from 5:30 am to 12:30 am and is located in terminal 1 (level 7) near gate 6. Take the escalator or elevator up to the lounge.
Seating
The lounge is has both indoor and “outdoor” seating available. Picture a house with a balcony on three sides with seating. The indoor area is quite attractive (reminiscent of The Pier in terms of style) while the outdoor area, which overlooks the terminal concourse, has more spartan seating with a bit of greenery to give it some color.
Indoor seating:
“Outdoor” seating:
There’s a quiet room in the rear of the lounge near the shower suites with large chairs (though no ottomans or beds).
Food + Drinks
Like other lounges, The Deck offers a noodle bar with soup, noodles, and dim sum made-to-order. Although there is a counter with stools to eat, you can sit anywhere (and if there is a line, you’ll be given a buzzer to notify you when your order is ready).
A self-serve buffet featured Western items, including:
- spicy tortilla soup
- beef meatballs
- oven-roasted vegetables
- braised Italian sausage
- pasta arrabbiata
- various salads
- deserts
There is no barista coffee or a staffed bar in this lounge: drinks are self-serve. A special “Sunset Bar” offers cocktail concoctions meant to evoke “a taste of Hong Kong.”
Showers + Restrooms
Restrooms and showers are available. Shower toiletries are from Bamford (I miss Aesop!) and shower suites have toilets.

Additional toiletries (like deodorant, combs, hair products, and shaving sets) are available on request, with some amenities like dental kits and makeup pads already present in the shower suites.
Restrooms:
CONCLUSION
I prefer The Wing and (especially) The Pier for the superior coffee options, but this was a nice quiet lounge and feels like a mini-version of The Pier with a nice terrace seating area.
You can read my 2019 review of the same lounge here. It has not changed at all.
@ Matthew – Any review trips coming up?
Sick of this one? 😉
I’ve been so busy with work on the ground that there are no trips at all coming up, though I’ll probably fly the new AA 787-9 soon. Back to Germany this summer, but in the meantime, I will write about:
1. Fall Germany trip (VS, B6)
2. Spring Germany trip (B6, SK)
3. Prague trip (SK, KL)
4. Ethiopia trip (UA, ET)
Time is very much at a premium right now and Google has been very hard on this blog…
If this ever happens again I’ll have you flying a 747 cargo plane out of Hong Kong full of rubber dog $hit. Dismissed. Gentlemen good luck.
Sadly a major crash in India overnight headed to London.
Doesn’t look good.

I miss Aesop at CX too. Bamford is a poor replacement.
