100K Bonus Points Make Chase Sapphire Preferred A No Brainer
Chase is currently offering 1000,000 bonus points when you sign up for the Chase Sapphire Preferred and spend $5,000 within three months of account opening. That is the equivalent of $1,000 in free cash toward travel (and even more if you strategically transfer points via Ultimate Rewards airline and hotel partners). Earlier in the pandemic, Chase offered an additional perk on this card called “Pay Yourself Back.” Then, you could take those 80,000 points and convert them to $800 in cash to pay down your Chase bill. That deal has narrowed and is now only good for Airbnb and Away purchases.
The new offer is available to those who currently do not have a Chase Sapphire card (either Preferred or Reserve) and those who have not received a sign-up bonus on either Sapphire card over the last 48 months. Generally, two years of credit history and a score above 720 is needed for card approval.

80K sign up offer is great. However, this card is weak in year 2+. I can get no AF cards that get me 2x on everything (not just travel and dining). Chase needs to refresh the Sapphire lineup especially after their updates to the freedom cards.
Capitol One Venture must really be taking a bite out of this card, because Chase is flooding the web with Sapphire 80,000 point ads, and in all the ads I’ve seen Chase compares the offer to the Venture card.
Personally, I carry CSR instead. At first it was a no brainer, but as the years have gone by the value proposition I get by paying more for CSR instead of CSP has evaporated.
If the $550 AF is back when my CSR renews, I’ll cancel and switch to CSP.
Got the CSR 3.7 years ago and will have to wait roughly 6 more months before passing the 48-month anniversary of the signup bonus. Sure hope this offer is still available then.
I’m rather renewing my CSR at the $450 price this year, so I’m out of contention. I’ll have to see how long my wife has had her CSP, might be time to cancel and reapply.

With the United devals, Hyatt peak pricing, and loss of Korean, UR just isn’t that compelling unless you’re only willing to play with the easy programs, or want cash out flexibility. Amex is still the best for long-haul J, or Citi for the folks who are value obsessed and enjoy being hassled. US Bank Altitude Reserve still best for cash back (hard mode) and BoA best for simple cash back with one card

Just signed up a week ago, after downgrading the CSR. Can’t see much point in keeping CSR as I don’t value Priority Pass very much.
Agree – Priority Pass hs become pretty worthless for lounge access.
But I believe CSR is one of the few remaining Priority Pass memberships that still includes non-lounge benefits (airport restaurants, spas, etc.), if you value that.
