Bolstering its prescence in China and the surrounding region, China Airlines has announced plans to join SkyTeam by mid-2011. The Taiwan-based carrier serves 93 destinations in 28 countries with a fleet of 66 aircraft.
The carrier will only add four new SkyTeam destinations, but will give SkyTeam flyers more options to get to Southeast Asia and China. Earlier this year China Eastern announced plans to join SkyTeam and China Southern is already a member of SkyTeam.
SkyTeam continues to seek alliance partners and rumors are circulating that Garuda Indonesia will apply to join SkyTeam later in the year. The Indonesian carrier, once banned from flying to the European Union due to safety concerns, has emerged over the few years as a formidable carrier.
