Continental Airlines: Lisbon-Caracas for $440 r/t

Matthew Klint Posted onJune 1, 2010 3 Comments

Continental Airlines has misfiled a V-class (Economy) fare from Lisbon, Portugal to Caracas, Venezuela. Rather than $550 o/w, it is only $55 o/w. With taxes, fees, and fuel surcharge, the lowest a/i fare is $440 r/t.

Sample Itinerary:

LIS-LHR-IAH-CCS, departing August 4 (LIS-LHR operated by BA)

CCS-IAH-LHR-LIS, departing August 19 (LHR-LIS operated by BA)

There appears to be a minimum four night stay on the fare, which earns full mileage in most Star Alliance programs. Free stopovers are allowed in IAH or EWR so you would not necessarily have to do the whole mileage run at once.

Be warned, I’d feel safer in Baghdad than in Caracas. But the Angel Falls in the Guiana Highlands would be a sight to see.

Details and discussion in this Flyertalk thread. Book fast if you’re interested on CO’s website. You will have 24 hours to cancel.

    A few disjointed thoughts:
    1. Careful, some nutball may group you in with the likes of AFWD once this deal dies
    2. V class fares… hmm.. wonder if UA SWU’s would be able to upgrade these trips? May have to book as late as possible (Saw 2 days in January when I peeked) and pass on a stopover
    3. The trick thread loosened up quite a bit and I learned a few more strikes. This may be the most fruitful gain for me.

@Erich: I thought about the clowns at AFWD when I posted this, but since there are no “tricks” involved and the deal has been around a few days, I decided to post it. I doubt a UA SWU will be able to upgrade this, even in January, but you never know. You could always try to trade a UA SWU for a CO SWU once those become available. RE: trick thread–is a trip to SGN in your travel plans? 😉 I am thankful that it has loosened up as well.

@moneyunderyourfuton: That’s funny. Probably just an input error, no?

Hey – This is slightly off topic, but i thought you’d appreciate it. Apparently, on AA, flying in Spanish can be twice as expensive as in English.
