Oh Delta, will you never learn from the mistakes of others?
TMZ has received video of Delta pilot (could be Delta Connection) striking a passenger as he tries to break up a brawl between two women on a jet bridge in Atlanta’s Hartsfield–Jackson International Airport.
Here it is (warning, strong language)–
But Delta is standing behind the pilot–
We became aware of this incident and a video last week and immediately removed the pilot from duty while we completed a thorough investigation. The pilot has since been returned to work as our investigation found that his actions deescalated an altercation between passengers on the jetway floor during deplaning.
Let’s be charitable for a moment. Let’s assume that the pilot struck one of the fighting passengers so she would let go of the other. Apparently the pilot’s decisive action and willingness to interject himself into the midst of a catfight de-escalated the situation.
But even so, wow…that video just looks so wrong. A man striking a woman like he’s beating her up. And just days after the embarrassment of a removing a passenger for having to use the lavatory during a round delay. I would have let them fight.
(H/T View from the Wing)
He didn’t “beat her up”. He hit once, a muscle strike, that did in fact release her grip. Can’t see what she was holding on to at the time, but whatever it was, once he broke the grip he walked away so I’d assume it was something that concerned him (Throat? Jewelry? who knows) and then once it was resolved he disengaged.
In the grand scheme of the use of force continuum, this was pretty sharp.
Standard disclaimer: If you (general public) weren’t there, your opinion is the same as mine: Opinion.
But I never said he beat her up.

“like”
Which still goes to my point …whether you think it was beating her up, or just looked like beating her up, I think my point still applies 🙂
You’re a douchebag, Matthew. I hope they show your picture to all airline employees and put you on the “bump” list.
You implied it…
Todd and No-One are right.
Unfortunately, the two “ladies” who were fighting were endangering other passengers who were attempting to get off the plane, as their scuffling/punches could have struck an unintended victim, in that area. There are no clear winners, here. Alas, this is what flying has become. As I stated last week, in another article, flying by commercial aircraft in the USA, is tantamount to riding on the NYC subway.
Those weren’t “ladies”. They obviously mistook the airport for the bus station, conduct unbecoming of ladies and gentlemen.
@AtlatAnne They don’t need to distribute his photo, we already know what he looks like. And no, we don’t like him!
Pilots can’t win. The other day, people were criticizing the pilot for standing and watching the stroller incident. Now a pilot takes action, and everyone is up in arms because he didn’t stay out of it. Make up your minds people!
