Are you afraid to fly? A commercial pilot is happy to hold your hand through a consultative phone call. But have your credit card ready.
Dial A Pilot: Airline Pilot Offers $50 Phone Call To Help Calm Your Fears About Flying
I see it myself in some of the comments on this blog and some of my clients at Award Expert (family and friends too). Some do have a genuine fear of flying. I consider it irrational, but rational or not, it is there and it is real.
Enter Dial A Pilot, a new service in which you can schedule a 15-minute phone call with a US commercial airline pilot for 50USD and he will be happy to answer any questions you have with the aim of helping you to assuage your fear of flying.
Looking at the webpage and the TikTok channel, it seems this is a United Airlines 737 pilot who is running it (he goes by Kyle). To that I say, good for him. This looks like a healthy side-hustle that does not compromise his ability perform his job in the least and allows him to be an excellent brand ambassador even without identifying his company.
He’s posted several helpful videos already that might do the job for free of calming you down.
@dial_a_pilot Aviophobia (fear of flying) is exceedingly common. We connect nervous passengers with real airline pilots for a one-on-one briefing before your flight. #fearofflying #flightanxiety ♬ Radio – Lana Del Rey
Kyle told Travel & Leisure:
“It hit me that, there’s a lot of people that are, one, afraid of flying, and just don’t quite understand it. And there’s a lot of people on the other side of that. The pilots that understand it well, love talking to the passengers, and would be happy to make themselves available.”
What does he get asked about the most?
“Turbulence is certainly the number one, and it comes down to a lack of understanding of why the turbulence is happening and what’s causing it.”
If you want a pilot to calm you down prior to your next flight, you can schedule an appointment here.
Captain Stacy Chance of American Airlines (or possibly formerly of AA) has run a website for possibly 25 years. http://www.fearofflyinghelp.com/ His fear of flying course accepts donations but does not have required tuition.
I’d rather have the pilots calm down the power tripping FA’s before their next flight.
$200/hr is steeper than many mental health professionals would charge…
But they think they deserve $600/hour when flying! 😉
For an extra $10 for 5 additional minutes you can also get a call with Scott Kirby who will explain that if anything bad does happen not to worry; it’s someone else’s fault.
LOL That one really makes me laugh.
Okay. So it’s an emotional support pilot?
