A Cold “Hot” Sandwich On EasyJet

Matthew Klint Posted onSeptember 29, 2018November 14, 2023 2 Comments

Each week, my Meal of the Week  feature examines an airline meal from my travels over the years. This may be a meal from earlier in the week or it may be a meal served over a decade ago.

EasyJet is my favorite budget carrier in Europe. Flights tend to run on-time, service is good, and EasyJet often serves more central airports than Ryanair. But how is the food onboard?

With a network of decent Priority Lass lounges in Europe, like the Marco Polo Lounge in Venice, it is often not necessary to eat onboard. But if you find yourself hungry, EasyJet has both hot and cold options. If you order hot food, however, be warned that FAs may not actually heat it…

While traveling from Nice (NCE) to Geneva (GVA) I ordered a Croque Monsieur, a baked ham and cheese sandwich. It cost 7EUR.

The sandwich looked attractive enough: I love melted cheese and the cheese on top of the bread had melted. The bread crust was also nicely browned.

Unfortunately, the sandwich was cold in the center. Ice cold. The flight was so short there was not time for the FA to even place it back in the oven. Perhaps EasyJet should not offer anything hot on flights under an hour.

In terms of budget carriers in Europe, my chili on Ryanair beat this sandwich on EasyJet.

What do you think about the buy-on-board menu on EasyJet?

Obviously disappointing, but 1) It’s EasyJet 2) Better than the reverse, where you’d wonder how long the food had been out of refrigeration and would you get sick as a result.

Did you bring it up with the FA, or just drop it? Depending, I’d just leave it alone.

I just dropped it. When she collected it, she did not ask why I didn’t finish it.
