In just a few hours, the ability to transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points to Amtrak Guest Rewards will no longer be possible. If you are considering an Amtrak redemption in the coming months, now is the final call to move your points over.
Amtrak is transforming its loyalty program in January to a revenue-based model, likely eliminating several incredible uses your for your Amtrak points that are currently available.
Currently, Amtrak divides the country into three regions and charges on a per-region basis to use points.
Here is the award chart. Note that roomettes with a single zone are only 15K (up to two people, bathroom down the hall) and bedrooms are 25K (also for up two people with en-suite facilities).
That’s a heck of a deal when you consider that the roomette or room includes three meals a day in the dining car, lie-flat seats, and onboard showers. If you have the time and enjoy a more relaxed pace and looking out the window at sprawling landscapes, this is a very valuable use of your Chase points.
Most bookings can be made online, but to reserve a bedroom or Auto-Train it is necessary to call Amtrak at 1-800-307-5000.
I did transfer over some points — I have been on long-distance trains before, but it will be nice to give Amtrak a try on the Coast Starlight service.
Perhaps I’m mistaken but I thought we had until December 7/8 to transfer Ultimate Reward points.
At least according to this blog post: http://thepointsguy.com/2015/09/end-of-chase-transfers-to-amtrak/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+thepointsguy+(The+Points+Guy)
Unless the rep on FlyerTalk is wrong or your sources are more accurate, I’m confused by this post.
Today is the last day to transfer Membership Rewards to BA Avios at a 1:1 ratio.
