Five New Places I Want To Visit In Countries I’ve Already Traveled To

Matthew Klint Posted onJanuary 5, 2019November 14, 2023 5 Comments

Yesterday I outlined five new countries I hope to visit in 2019. Today, I outline five places I wish to visit in countries that I have already visited.

The world is complex and some places most consider separate countries are actually not separate countries but autonomous or semi-autonomous parts of another country. This year there are five such places I hope to travel to.

Greenland (Denmark)

An autonomous region of Denmark, Greenland looks beautiful and if anything like Longyearbyen, a place I definitely want to visit this year.

Faroe Islands (Denmark)

The Faroe Islands are enchanting and this trip report from Out and Out has me looking forward to visiting. The chance to fly Atlantic Airways is icing on the cake.

Lhasa, Tibet (China)

Lhasa is intriguing from a geopolitical perspective. This Chinese-held territory requires special permission to visit, though it has loosened up a bit from previous years. I’ve always wanted to visit Potala Palace.

Saint Pierre and Miquelon (France)

Technically part of France, I’ve been wanting to visit this territory for more than six years. With service to Paris on Air Saint-Pierre again returning this year, I hope to actually visit this year.

Tahiti (France)

I hope to take my wife on a child-free 4-5 day getaway. United is now serving Tahiti year-around so I would fly one direction on United and one on Air Tahiti Nui (hopefully without my nightmare coming to fruition).

CONCLUSION

In many respects, these places are higher on my bucket list than the five countries I outlined yesterday. Even so, we’ll see whether times permits a visit to any of these places in 2019.

Where do you want to visit in 2019?

    Very west coast yuppie choices.

@Debit – Actually I’m the furthest thing from a west coast yuppie (Texan and Rancher) and these are on my list as well.

St. Pierre and Miquelon has been an obsession of mine as well ever since Lucky wrote about it. Except I’m not going to fly there from Paris. I’m going to drive to Nova Scotia, then take the ferry to Newfoundland and then St. Pierre. The only thing I haven’t decided is whether I try to drive all the way from here, or fly to Toronto and rent a car there. This is likely a 2020 or 2021 trip for us, though.

This has been an obsession for me long before Lucky wrote about it. In fact, I first wrote about it in 2010!

Thanks for the mention, Matthew! I’m hoping to get to Greenland this summer for the first time. Newfoundland is amazing, too – great choices!
