After a three-hour drive from Cairo, we arrived at the Four Seasons Hotel Alexandria at San Stefano. I spent the next three days here and fell in love with this opulent property in the historic city of Alexandria, Egypt.

Review: Four Seasons Hotel Alexandria at San Stefano, Egypt

I booked via American Express Fine Hotels & Resorts, which included:

  • Daily breakfast for two
  • 125USD spa credit
  • 4:00 pm check-out guaranteed
  • 12:00 pm check-in, when available
  • Room upgrade at check-in, when available

The nightly rate was around $430 for a base room.

Check-In

The hotel is quite ornate and feels like a fine European hotel, with portraits, statues, marble, and ornate couches and chairs.

I was assigned room 1505, a lovely room overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.

The room was lovely and bright, with light blue accents on chains and a nice chandelier with an ornate ceiling medallion around it.

Waiting on my desk was a delectable assortment of sweet treats and a bowl of fruit.

The bathroom was quite large as well, with a bathtub, single sink, toilet, and bidet.

There was a mini-bar which I did not partake from.

The orange juice was leftover from breakfast. I ordered a second glass to have with my afternoon coffee.

Pools

Perhaps the most beautiful part of this hotel is the indoor pool, which features a glass ceiling and lush greenery, creating a very inviting atmosphere.

There’s an outdoor pool as well overlooking the Mediterranean that I could look down on from my balcony.

Fitness Center

I began each day with a workout. The gym was well-equipped with TechnoGym equipment and never crowded.

Spa + Wellness

My stay included spa credit, which I utilized for a one-hour massage. The treatment was excellent and the spa facilities are very posh.

I also spent time each day in the sauna and steam room, located in the spa locker rooms.

Food + Drink

My stay was during Ramadan, the time of year in which many Muslims do not eat or drink from sunrise to sunset. Consequently, breakfast was via room service only. I actually liked that arrangement and enjoyed delicious falafel, eggs, freshly-squeezed juices, and great coffee.

The bar (Le Bar) was closed (even after sundown) and alcohol was only available via room service.

One night we went downstairs for an Iftar dinner, which was a huge spread of food from cuisines around the world including freshly-carved meats, fish, salad bar, and a huge tray of desserts. So delicious!

At dinner I had a chance to speak to Mr. Nihat Yucel, the GM, who graciously welcomed us to his hotel and was delighted when I told him how much I enjoyed my time at his previous hotel, the Four Seasons Istanbul at the Bosphorus.

One other night my friend and I ordered room service, including pizza, lasagna, and lamb. All were respectable.

The other night I went out, which I will detail in my next post.

CONCLUSION

Despite Ramadan impacting hotel services, I had a very lovely stay at the Four Seasons Hotel Alexandria at San Stefano. The food, hospital, and accommodations were excellent and I look forward to bringing my family here someday when I take them to Egypt.

This review is obviously from at least a year ago. Ramadan hasn’t started yet this year, but was in April in 2022.

Incidentally, I was also in Egypt last year during Ramadan.

Might be worth time stamping these given lots can change in a year.

Simply gorgeous! The photos of the welcome treats were especially mesmerizing.

The no smoking sign for the elevator sense unnecessary, until you visit Egypt. It seems like everyone smokes, I’m still days later getting over so much cigarette smoke.

Good to see the Jordanian style kunafa on your plate, the Egyptian style is fine but has no cheese

I will say that Aswan is my favorite city in Egypt, if you don’t go there you’ve really missed out

For sure. Indeed, the sign and the ashtrays in front of each elevator demonstrate that smoking is allowed indoors just about everywhere else.

Being a “Four Seasons” hotel it’s obviously a luxurious full service hotel resort, however, considering they’re charging nearly 450 dollars a night for a basic room, as far as Four seasons hotels go, it does look a little dated and drab in my opinion.

That’s true. However, they do have beach suites and villas with contemporary decor. I think these are available during summer.
